Kelsey | 17 comments I noticed that no one had started a topic on this book yet, so I thought I might.

I finished reading The Golem and the Jinni several weeks ago. I liked how Wecker took the time to introduce and develop the stories of a wide range of characters before gradually showing us how these stories fit together. It made for a sort of sweet and gentle reading experience. I found the writing thoughtful, but also very accessible. I also enjoyed the New York historical fiction aspect. I'm finding, however, that the story didn't really stick with me much after.

Any other thoughts?

Basil Godevenos (basilgodevenos) Sweet and gentle are two very accurate ways to describe this book. Nothing groundbreaking in terms of story or theme. It think this story would adapt well to the screen in the same way The Time Traveler's Wife did.

Sometimes it's nice to sit down with a bit of a softer book and unwind your mind a little.

Story (storyheart) It's been a year since I read it but I felt that the book was still in 'draft' form and not yet ready to be published. It felt to me like she should have revised it a few more times. The last quarter felt flabby and the end didn't seem to match the tone of the rest of the book. I started out loving it but had to force myself to finish.

Robin P I liked the NYC sections and how the principal characters were in a sense just like other immigrants. I got bored by the sections of the Jinni in the desert. It's true that not a lot actually happens plot-wise except for the night at the dance. It was ok but not up to the hype, in my opinion.
