Thanks David. I’m closer to a famous pencil museum (and as featured in Sightseers) as I’m communing with nature near Keswick in the northern Lakes. Damp but delightful.

Splendid. Our currently-suspended annual forays around the UK’s regions (with the added delight of a visit to the faded splendour of a down-at-heel seaside holiday resort, where possible) have yet to take in the Lakes, but they are very much on my radar. It will feel weird heading west on the A66 rather than east as is my norm.

I must dig out and luxuriate in the wonderful Jimmy McGovern DVD box set of the same name (The Lakes, not the A66).

Enjoy the break, and indulge your 2B graphite hobby to the max.

Band of Gold topped the charts round about now. It was there the same week as my Dad died, 50 years ago on 29 September. Great choice, and along with REM’s The One I Love, chosen by misguided newlyweds for the opening turn around under the glitterball after the nuptials.

And Jimi Hendrix flew Stone Free 50 years ago today. Who knows how things might have been different had he carried on that frenzy of creativity?
