TWAS THE NIGHT JESUS CAME

Twas' the night Jesus came and all through the house, not a person was praying, not one in the house.
The Bible was left on the shelf without care, for no one thought Jesus would come there.
The children were dressing to crawl into bed, not once ever kneeling or bowing their head.
And Mom in the rocking chair with baby on her lap, was watching the Late Show as I took a nap.
When out of the east there rose such a clatter, I sprang to my feet to see what's the matter.
Away to the window I flew like a flash, tore open the shutters and lifted the sash.
When what to my wondering eyes should appear, but Angels proclaiming that Jesus was here.
The light of His face made me cover my head, it was Jesus returning just like He'd said.
And though I possessed worldly wisdom and wealth, I cried when I saw Him in spite of myself.
In the Book of Life that in which He held in His hand, was written the name of every saved man.
He spoke not a word as He searched for my name, when He said "it is not here," I hung my head in shame.
The people whose names had been written with love, He gathered to take to His Father above.
With those who were ready He rose without a sound, while all the others were left standing around.
I fell to my knees but it was too late, I waited too long and thus sealed my fate.
I stood and I cried as they rose out of sight, Oh, if only I'd know that this was the night.
In the words of this poem the meaning is clear, the coming of Jesus is now drawing near.
There's only one life and when comes the last call, we'll find out that the Bible was true after all.

Wow, Urs. This is a very strong poem and very convicting. My name might be written in the Book of Life, but am I praying and reading the Bible as I should? Am I ready to welcome Jesus' coming or would I hang my head in shame?

Hi Urs!

There are many wonderful, and dreadful, truths in that statement. It is my sincere prayer that I will be unashamed on that Day! I pray that God will convict my heart of anything in my life that is not pleasing to Him, before we meet face to face...

I am reminded of this wonderful verse:

Psalms 119:105 "Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path."

Only through Christ Jesus--the "True Light," who is the living word, can we truly see the reality set before us. May we be diligent to read and study His holy word, and may God give us the understanding as we walk with Him!

Take care Urs! I have been missing you!

With the love of Christ,
C.

Carl Mathis (carlmathis) | 5 comments How to Change Negative Thinking and Create a Positive Life

We all do our best to stay positive, but sometimes we can slide into bad thinking patterns that can cause chaos in our lives.

Breathe more. Breathing will relax you, calm you, connect you to the present moment, and help you feel grounded. It sounds so simple but often when our mind starts to race to bad places, we become hysterical and anxious when what we need to do is relax the body and mind. One way to breathe more is use meditation apps which are readily available on smart phones and tablets. Daily listening can help ease anxiety, fear, worry and doubt.

I don't really know where to put this, so I'll just put it here.

You all know it's a new year, new things, new adventures, new resolutions. At my youth group this week we talked about New Years resolution and how we can make it in growing closer to God this year. The thing my youth leader has challenged us to do is every time you post something on social media (Facebook, instagram, twitter, anything else) that's spiritual and/or relating to God (examples: the Bible passage u read today, a biblical quote, things like that) you hashtag it #closer. The only social media I'm really on is Goodreads. But I just thought it would be a fun thing to try. :) :)

Amen! We've got to praise Him in advance. Sometimes it's that thankful praise that helps to open some doors, helps to stop the attacks launched at us and helps to keep us in our faith.

Lee (lee-lette) | 871 comments It isn’t as bad as you sometimes think it is.
It all works out. Don’t worry.
I say that to myself every morning.
It will all work out.
Put your trust in God,
and move forward with faith
and confidence in the future.
The Lord will not forsake us.
He will not forsake us.
If we will put our trust in Him,
if we will pray to Him,
if we will live worthy of His blessings,
He will hear our prayers.

I read a series of books several years ago by Terri Blackstock and Beverly Lahaye called "Seasons". In each book, one of the women was going through a challenging time in her life. They learned to count their blessings each day. Sometimes they had to look hard to find the blessing. Sometimes the blessing was as simple as "the pain was bearable". Counting their blessings each day led to a richer and closer walk with God for each of them. Counting my blessings is something I try to do now, especially in times of trials and hardships.

Lee (lee-lette) | 871 comments That's a good way to look at hardships. It may be hard sometimes, yet we are blessed. Thanks for that Rita Faye :)

C. Read (truelight) | 312 comments Here's a Word of Encouragement to all those "Real Christians" out there!

1 Corinthians 2:9 "But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love Him."

There is nothing on earth that can compare to the absolute beauty of Heaven. And on the other side of that, there is nothing on earth that can compare to the extreme horrors of Hell.

Let's make sure we are living a life that encourages others to seek the Kingdom of Heaven, and a genuine relationship with our LORD!

With the love of Christ,
C. Read

Lee (lee-lette) | 871 comments The Legacy
She could not give her children gold,
So she gave them faith to have and hold.

She could not give them royal birth...
A name renowned throughout the earth.
But she gave them seeds and garden spot
And shade trees when the sun was hot.

She could not give a silver spoon
Or servants waiting night and noon.
She gave them love and a listening ear
And told them God was always near.

She could not give them ocean trips
Aboard majestic sailing ships.
But she gave them books and quiet time,
Adventures found in prose and rhyme.

She could not give them worldly things
But what she gave was fit for kings.
For with her faith and books and sod,
She made each child aware of God.
