Kim | 10 comments I used to think it was The Dragon and the George, but that's not it. I still think the name is similar in some way.

The book is at least 15 years old, probably more like 20+. In it, a guy gets transported (not sure on the means) to a world where magic works, and big surprise, he can work it. He creates some havoc in the town square by reciting the "give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free" speech, gets hauled in and worked over by the local evil sorcerer but holds his own, and then manages to get him and the princess who is also prisoner free.

That's in the first chapter or two. So he joins the princess in trying to reclaim her land (basically), and somewhere along the way a dragon joins them, and a woman who'd been doing bad things, and a being (I think called Max) that the guy called up that does funky things like rust metal. I'm trying not to give spoilers here, lol. I can provide more details, but I figure that's enough to jog anyone's memory.

Well, anyone's except mine.

Michele | 279 comments Pretty sure this is Her Majesty's Wizard (Wizard in Rhyme, #1) by Christopher Stasheff Her Majesty's Wizard by Christopher Stasheff. Matt reads a random scrap of parchment and is transported to a different world where poetry can be used to cast spells. He rescues a princess, calls up a dragon, gets a familiar named I think Max that uses physics, there's a lusty witch, a werewolf priest, a knight...wackiness ensues as they all fight to win back the princess' s kingdom.

Kim | 10 comments Wow that's awesome, you guys are two for two tonight, thanks so much :D. I can't wait to get these to read again...er, for my kids of course!

Debbie is on Storygraph (silentrequiem) | 89 comments It's the first in a series. I've only read the first couple but they were pretty good!

Debbie is on Storygraph (silentrequiem) | 89 comments Also, this book was NOT a kid's book. You may want to edit the folder you shelved the thread in. It was definitely adult fantasy.
