So... I'm starting to think about my choices. Not sure yet, but I might start on this one Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell but mor probable is this one The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time in form of a German copy

I guess my choiuce for this month is the Virgin River books. They have been so recommended that I was a bit worried that the expectations would be too high. In a way they were but I just can't seem to stop myself and I have been reading one after the other.

Are there any other contemporary romance series any of you can recommend? I'm in the mood for something similiar and all I can think of are mysteries (nothing bad with those and I will get to them).

"Everyone seemed to him a mother or a father, past their prime, a wasted confabulation. Only Livia was young. Only she was perfect."

Available to download now - The Pale Dove - a love story redeemed and corrupted by the 21st century. The tale of Gerald Hudson and Livia Schubert.

In terms of contemporary series, I just finished reading the Donovan brothers trilogy by Victoria Dahl, which is quite cute and rather steamy. At least I assume it's a trilogy (Good Girls Don't etc). There's also the Debbie Macomber series which is a bit more sedate.

Debbie Macomber is mostly contemporary westerns is it not? It's been a while since I read her.

So, I did try several suggestions:
Paul Austers [book:The New York Trilogy
was a DNF for me. What boring, boring stuff. It was a gift from my best friend who does read for intellectual reasons as well as entertainment, so his choices are always so different from what I would choose for myself. So not surprisingly the second book I read for this challenge was also a gift from him and also a DNF for me: The Final Testament of the Holy Bible
Jonathan Strange is also from him, so I opted against a third failure and did read The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time and that one (suggested and gifted by a colleague)was a success. If you haven't read it I suggest you do. I read it in one sitting and was so involved in the story which hasn't happened in a long while. So thanks for that book! Otherwise this challenge would've been a drag.

No, I actually haven't read any westerns by her... unless you mean West Coast. The ones I've read were all contemporaries, the Cedar Cove series and the Blossom Street series. Looking at fantasticfiction I see she does indeed seem to have lots of westerns, but I haven't read any of those (and don't generally like those too well).

penelopewanders | 67 comments Just remembered another series I've been reading as a bookcrossing spiral: the Elm Creek Quilters. I wasn't bowled over by the first but it improves as it goes along and flips back and forth between contemporary and historical. I've been enjoying it.

penelopewanders | 67 comments I have the Shop on Blossom Street, if you're interested... Also recently read further in SEP's American lady series (Call me Irresistable, The Great Escape) and enjoyed those a lot. Hadn't read much SEP in a while. I have those, as well as Glitter Baby from that series.
