A Cormac McCarthy "Heads Up"

I think The Road was compelling. It was one of the best books I'd read that year. I was fascinated by the disconnection from time and place. With no (or very little) explanation. Also the way the story started as a story of a man with a boy focused on a goal that makes little sense and then slowly shifted throughout until it became the end of the mans story and the beginning of the boys story. I read it in a couple of days. I felt a weird emotional connection to the disconnection. I probably wont see the movie because I'm sure there will be an interpretation that dissappoints me. And they will probably try to "explain" the story to me and that will just piss me off. Blood Meridian Or the Evening Redness in the Westwas relentlessly ugly, mean and cruel. It took me 6 months to read it.I had to force myself and was left horribly depressed. I don't think I'll be reading anymore Cormac McCarthy.

You need to post more often if you've got material like this Martyn! Tis why we love you.

I couldn't really stomach all the gore to be found in "Blood Meridian"...I think that his Border Trilogy was actually the best of his work.
Books mentioned in this topic
Blood Meridian, or, the Evening Redness in the West (other topics)The Road (other topics)
But, I remember quite a few group members chiming in on an old post "a ways" back. So, I thought I'd post this.
Okay . . . here goes . . . with trepidation:
I just saw a preview to Cormac McCarthy's latest novel, THE ROAD.
The preview slated the release date for this Fall. Viggio Mortensen and Cheriz Theron will be the leads.
So . . . to McCarthy fans, I hope I bring "good news" rather than "bad." Of course, that depends upon the adaptation, production, and ultimately, the reader / viewer.
