Hi Sandy! I love to have maps in my books, it makes it seem all the more real to me. I love the maps to have the names of the mountains, seas, and cities. However, I don't think it needs to be more detailed than that.

I don't particularly like maps, partially because I am not very visual that way. I just don't care where everything is in relationship to everything else. And I almost never bother to look at them.
Well, if it were me, I wouldn't do it. I don't know if other people have a specific idea of the map of Wonderland in their brains, but I don't. So for me personally, I wouldn't need a new map to reorient myself to your version. And again, I just don't like maps. :) But hopefully someone who knows Wonderland really well will answer too. They may have a different opinion about that issue.
Good luck!
I like maps if location or travel is going to play a significant role. It is especially useful/critical when dealing with the politics of more than one country, since it helps give a quick overview of the borders and relative size of the countries. (The series I'd most love a map for but doesn't have one is Megan Whalen Turner's Thief series. But that's one, like Martin, whose world expands as the series progresses.)My pet peeve though is when the whole journey is mapped out with little dots, as in my mind this is a spoiler for the book.
Fairies and Firefies has a map in it, but while it looks childlike, it was drawn by a professional cartographer - I wanted something "hundred acre woods"-ish to keep in the tone of the stories. I think he did an excellent job.The same cartographer is working on a small map for Heart of Rock (probably coming out in April), because it deals with two kingdoms, and beta readers were always getting confused about which kingdom was which.
Actually, I rather like maps.
