Yay, I finished! Great book. Great HBO series.

message 152: by Scott (new) - rated it 5 stars

Scott (ttownscott) Yeah, I'm looking forward to getting started on the next one. Probably tomorrow. Watched the first episode of the first season last night. I will probably watch one episode a night. Maybe more on the weekend.

message 153: by Addy (new)

Addy | 1944 comments I may be a little late in the game, but that's ok. We can use spoiler tags:) Happy reading!

message 154: by Scott (new) - rated it 5 stars

Scott (ttownscott) Thanks for changing the topic and book cover whoever did that.

Ahh, my kids have this crazy dance recital going on this weekend so I might have to catch up with both SoS and Hive at the beginning of next week.

K4tie (nonzombieleader) | 14 comments I use this site when I can't remember who a character is, usually for the small ones that don't come up too often. I thought this group might appreciate it :)

Addy | 1944 comments Cool. I'll have to check it out. Thanks!

message 160: by Scott (new) - rated it 5 stars

Scott (ttownscott) That is cool. I'm about two chapters into SoS and in the back of my mind I keep thinking about what is going to happen next in Hive!

RachelvlehcaR (charminggirl) | 299 comments I'm on the second chapter in SoS and soon I'll be at 75% on Hive.

message 162: by Addy (new)

Addy | 1944 comments Ok. Just saw a recap of season 2. It seems to me that more was revealed than I planned on seeing. Is it true that in season 2, part of book III is also in there? I read that in SOS, George is writing about other things that went on during the battle at the end of book II. Seems to me that book II should have been longer.

message 163: by Addy (new)

Addy | 1944 comments So I finally finished! Yay! Started SoS. Im really surprised that the Black men of the Watch are going to revolt. I'm kinda sad about this. I thought these men were good....ah well, just adds more drama.

message 164: by Scott (new) - rated it 5 stars

Scott (ttownscott) I did not get far into SoS yet. 3% then I went back to Hive. I have the feeling that I'll tear through the next 25% of Hive pretty quickly though and be right back to SoS.

I'm starting SOS on the 30th May.
The comments from you guys are making me impatient to start. ;)

message 166: by Addy (new)

Addy | 1944 comments Lol. I forgot that most of the men are rapers and murderers on the wall. Makes sense now.

message 167: by K4tie (new) - added it

K4tie (nonzombieleader) | 14 comments Yeah they are the unwanted :( but in some ways most important!

message 168: by Addy (new)

Addy | 1944 comments Im about 8% and loving every minute of it, especially Tyrion's parts.

message 169: by Scott (new) - rated it 5 stars

Scott (ttownscott) Yeah, I'm 7%, but right now it's the only thing I am reading. Now that Tywin told Tyrion how he really feels about him, I wonder if Tyrion's allegiances will shift any.

Finished watching the first season last night. It was really good. Probably won't watch the 2nd season until the end of summer though.

message 170: by K4tie (new) - added it

K4tie (nonzombieleader) | 14 comments I'm almost ready to start, but I remember Tyrion, he really got messed up. I don't understand why his father hates him so much. I understand he's an "abomination" at this time period because he is a dwarf, but he is very cunning and could help with the strategics of battle. I am hoping someone starts making use of this talent.

I'm only at 4% but I started! I'm looking forward to more of Dany's story, and Tyrion's. They are my favorite characters, for their resiliance. I'm also a big fan of the Stark sisters, each making their way in a rough world.

RachelvlehcaR (charminggirl) | 299 comments Katie, when you read more of the book you will learn why Tyrion's father hates him so much. It's beyond the "abomination" thing for being a dwarf.

I will put a little more about it in the spoiler.

(view spoiler)

message 173: by K4tie (new) - added it

K4tie (nonzombieleader) | 14 comments Awesome, I'm glad there is more backstory on that! The books are long enough to include it,lol!

Dany and Aery's are my favorite. Catelyn is almost a favorite, but something about her doesn't let me fully like her.

RachelvlehcaR (charminggirl) | 299 comments My favorites are Jon, Dany, Aery, and Tyrion. It's horrible, I get a favorite then they die, lol. Then another, and another, and another... :(

message 175: by Scott (new) - rated it 5 stars

Scott (ttownscott) Rachel, those are my favorites as well. Catelyn, Sansa and Rob I haven't really felt attached to.

message 176: by Maxine Marsh (new) - added it

Maxine Marsh | 703 comments Mod
Its hard to have Catelyn as a favorite because her story is so melancholy. She never seems to have any powerful moments (her best is her bonding with Brienne). I think she is more likable in the tv show because the actress who plays her is so fantastic.

RachelvlehcaR (charminggirl) | 299 comments Yeah, I'm not fond of Catelyn, but the hardest character for me is Sansa. She's a nightmare for me to read, in book one she was the worst. When I see it's her chapter I want to skip it. I don't but I really want to.

message 178: by K4tie (new) - added it

K4tie (nonzombieleader) | 14 comments Lol, I hear that! Sansa is a typical princess and embodies everything that makes me feel vulnerable. Aery's and Dany embody who I want to be more like but am not.

message 179: by Maxine Marsh (new) - added it

Maxine Marsh | 703 comments Mod
I like Sansa I suppose because I've watched the current tv series and I see where her character has developed. I can actually see where Sansa, Arya and Dany could all end up being very much alike, starting off in circumstances not of their own making and learning to be strong and manipulate the unique circumstances each finds themselves in. Sansa's had it hardest of all, brought up to be a 'proper lady', given absolutely no tools to take care of herself, only to find herself living basically in a snake pit.

message 180: by Scott (new) - rated it 5 stars

Scott (ttownscott) Liked how Jon handled Mance Ryder. I could see that he took some of Tyrion's advice about 'owning' being a bastard and made good use of it.

message 181: by K4tie (new) - added it

K4tie (nonzombieleader) | 14 comments Good point Maxine. I agree that a lot of characters are thrown into situations they aren't exactly prepared for, and thank goodness we are reading this so we can "hear" them think it out! :)

RachelvlehcaR (charminggirl) | 299 comments I'm not sure how far people are at so I'm posting my stuff in a spoiler.

(view spoiler)

message 183: by Scott (new) - rated it 5 stars

Scott (ttownscott) I'm 16%. No big surprises yet, although Arya's story is starting to look interesting.

message 184: by Addy (new)

Addy | 1944 comments I'm 16% too and yes, Arry was fortunate. Escaped some lannister trouble. Very interesting.

Scott (ttownscott) I'm between your two spoilers. Ha Ha. My kindle loan from one library ends today, but should start again from another library in a day or two.
I was really surprised by that action with Sam at 20%!

I've just started and as I'm reading the collection with all four books I'll have no idea what % I'm really at.
The prologue was good, the plan by some of the black watch to escape has now been scuppered with the arrival of the 'others'.
I've only read the next chapter with Jaime, definitely not a gentleman.

message 190: by Scott (new) - rated it 5 stars

Scott (ttownscott) Glad to have you join Kate!. I was really excited about the 'others' in the prologue and then they don't come up for a long time again. That said, there is a lot going on and some great characters to follow.

RachelvlehcaR (charminggirl) | 299 comments I know Addy!

RachelvlehcaR (charminggirl) | 299 comments Jaime, oh Jaime, no he isn't a gentleman. Interesting how he knows the kids are his. Goodness, and they wonder why some royalty have issues. Look at the bloodline, lol.

Argh, I need to catch up, only at 7% still. Sick kidlets and end of the school year activity is keeping me from it! Also there was a death in this newest season on tv that really got to me, lol. You'd think I'd be used to it by now.

message 194: by Addy (new)

Addy | 1944 comments Yes that's what I heard Maxine, but I told my coworker I didn't want to know. Im sure I'll be devastated as well.

26% Im actually feeling bad for Jaime. He has no idea of what his father has done or is planning. Poor, delusional Jaime.

message 195: by Scott (new) - rated it 5 stars

Scott (ttownscott) I dead an interview with George Martin about season three, which also applies to book three, where one big theme mentioned was people acting on incomplete our outdated information. I'm definitely seeing that

RachelvlehcaR (charminggirl) | 299 comments Maxine, I was so surprised by that death. I didn't see it coming at all, I don't know why, you'd think we'd all be use to it. I swear I'm going to have PTSD from the show.

I watched an interview of George Martin and he said, the HBO writers are killing off people in his books and in very brutal ways yet they live in his books. So, I'm trying to figure out who he is talking about. I have to keep reading on.

message 197: by Addy (new)

Addy | 1944 comments At 33% Dany kicks ass!

message 198: by Addy (new)

Addy | 1944 comments 36%(view spoiler) Wow!

message 199: by Addy (new)

Addy | 1944 comments Is anybody at 43% or so? Im confused about the story jaime tells Brienne at the bath house. If anyone can clarify please do! In a spoiler tag of course:)

message 200: by Scott (new) - rated it 5 stars

Scott (ttownscott) I set it aside at about 25% to read another book, but I'm back on it again. I'm with Bran heading north.
