Should there be awards shows for books?

U hav a really good point. I don't really care much about celeberties, (though i would ask J Law for autograph)

I would love books to have there own award show and I'd bring all my books I wanted to be signed and see all those people like Cassandra Clare, Veronica Roth, James Patterson, etc.
That is a brilliant idea! Why hasn't this been considered by people who can make this happen? I would absolutely love to watch an awards show for books.
I was just thinking about this as I was watching the Oscars the other night. I totally agree with you. I mean, they have book awards just no award shows, which is what we want. The only problem is Hollywood will definitely not produce a book awards show.
It would be cool if someone would actually plan this event someday.

I'm sure someone could plan it. I bet the main problem would be advertising it and spreading the word. A book awards show isn't a well established event, and whoever would be willing to plan it probably wouldn't have the connections or money needed to actually do it.

Yeah cause books contribute so much more to society.
This was great! Today at school I had to write a newspaper article and I had no Idea what to do so I did A book awards debut hosted by the BBC called the OBBA's (Official BBC Book Awards) :D Thank you topic!

Snap, I probably wouldn't wait for hours for a celebrities autograph but definitely for an author, that would be priceless to me. Yeah they should have big Red carpet book award shows, they would be great :)
I think this is a great idea. Not everyone who likes an author gets the chance to meet them or hear them talk, so if there was a televised book award ceremony, then people could either watch or attend! This is such an awesome idea!!
I would be the best thing ever! Red carpet were authors could walk down and autograph their/our books. For the show(during breaks), people could act out scenes from random books and we could guess what book and author. Authors could answer questions and it would be awesome! I agree, and we should pitch this idea to the Oscar people!

award shows are a must for authors and publishes too. i would love to see my fav authors on the red carpet.

I completely agree with you. In fact, books/authors deserve awards even more than movies/tv/celebrities, because in my opinion it takes a lot more talent to write an amazing book than to play a role in a movie where they tell you everything that you are supposed to say and do. Although, along with the award show would come a lot of fandom wars, which are never a good thing and can turn ugly very quickly. So it's an amazing idea that I would totally love, but along with it comes aspects that would just cause strife and trouble.
I totally would love if there was a book and publishing awards. With so many YA book to movie adaptations, the movie business would take a serious hit if those movies weren't made anymore.
Actors and actresses have gotten huge carer breaks because of that. Authors deserve their credit.
As a partially aspiring author, film director and journalist, I think for many tv sations, broadcasting this would be a good choice to draw in more viewers.
Also, I'd totally want to go.

There is award shows for everything! Movies, tv shows, actors, plays/theater, music... THERE SHOULD DEFINETLY BE BOOKS

The Hunger Games wasn't popular until the movie came out, then suddenly everybody is reading it just because of the movie.
Yes it would be awesome even though not many people will watch it because authors aren't as popular as actors but it would be great if it happened

That's true. Its also like other books like Percy Jackson, Eragon, Divergent, Twilight, or Lord of Rings. I never heard of them until the movie came out. Maybe they should have previews for books on TV.
I think the whole idea would be great to have an awards. Authors should be recognized and have a way of getting more heard by none too. I also think it should be filmed and live with a red carpet. Its also a good way to learn more about books not everyone heard of but was popular. I also think there should also be a reader's choice awards. Where readers get vote and nominate the best.

It takes lots of talent and work to create a movie. It just takes more than one person to get it to the film. Its not just actors. You got the screenwriter, story writer, producers, director, and many of the people who work behind the scenes. So both books and movies or TV takes alot of talent and work. Not to much trying to stand out or get notice is hard as well.

We can also rally bootubers and other people who love to read to email as well. Possibly Goodreads would get the message.
