You made a great point about how music/ tv shows/ movies are everywhere. I forgot about that even though my little sister is watching tv downstairs right now ;D I also wish I could go to the BEA, but Califrnia is a pretty long way from New York,

Jodi (readinbooks) It is an interesting thought but I think there are too many awards shows televised. Yes I like to see what everyone shows up wearing but I don't stick around to listen to the never ending lists of names people thank. Maybe if people gave more meaningful speeches I would watch more but I get so bored of listening to list upon list of names.

People watch the awards shows because they recognize the celebrities. They want to see their favourite celebrity. I don't always even know the author's names to some of my favourite books.

I would rather see more or any author's expo or convention where authors gather and fans can go and meet them, buy some books, get their books signed.

Kristie | 5929 comments I agree with Jodi. I think there are too many televised awards shows. I end up not watching any. I know that books can be given many different awards, but I don't want to watch it. I think it would be great if there was a yearly comprehensive list though! I'd definitely go through that for suggestions. :)

I would actually watch a books award show but that's just me :)

Hannah yeah I personally would love to watch it

Lauren Where I live there is never any meetings with authors or just simply go to get your book signed, so I think more book conventions should be available to go to.

Melissa Eisenmeier (carpelibrumbooks) I've thought for a long time that they need awards ceremonies for books like they do with music and television. I find television and movies vastly overrated, and books greatly underappreciated and underrated.
With that said, what categories would you include? I'd probably include a Best New Author award, a Best Book of the Year Award, and Most Funny Book Award.

Sandra | 6 comments Absolutely! There are award shows for toenail clippers, I don't see why not books...

That's because people who read know that books are more precious than a one night of non sense prizing.

Daniela Florez Yes, but it had to be an academy award's like. The world is full of stupid people with stupid choices, surely the award for the best novel of the year would go tp fifty shades of grey and we all know that's BS.

Anna (AnnaTheHaibane) | 9 comments Omigosh, totally! Although i have to agree with Daniella, stupid and popular things would probably all win. Sadface.

Diana Gotsch | 55 comments Sad to say, but I'm not sure readers want to see there favorite books and Authors as part of the silliness that happens on award shows. besides we all know that our favorite book is the best one written that year.

Jim Vuksic All of the various award shows on TV have become overly-hyped and often ridiculously silly contests which primarily focus attention upon the most physically attractive and flamboyant personalities rather than the most talented or skilled.

I believe that, for the most part, serious readers are focused soley upon authors' works and could care less about an author's physical appearance, personality or stage presence.

Besides; the majority of the targeted audience would probably be too busy reading a book to be bothered watching the awards show.

It's one of my hobby horses, how little TV (here in the UK at least) promotes books.
