The Literary Chick (theliterarychick) Hi, I'm Marilyn, and was wondering if anyone else thought The Piano Teacher by Elfriede Jelinek would qualify as bizarro fiction?

message 302: by Kevin (new)

Kevin Strange (kevinstrange) | 24 comments Word up, yos. I'm extremely late to the Bizarro party. But I'm here. And I write the shit out of this shit. Come at me bro.

message 303: by Su-ling (new)

Su-ling Hi everyone! I'm Su-ling, I'm new to bizarro fiction but I'm really loving it. I'm a big horror fan, I love horror anything and the weirder the better so bizarro fiction is feeling like a great fir for me.
I have a ton of "to read" books in my list but I'm hoping some you of more experienced in the genre can point out some great new reads for me :)

message 304: by Diantre (new)

Diantre | 1 comments Hello! I am new here so... exploring and all. I like a story with no begining or end. Characters that are either extremely up front or incredibly secretive. If i can not understand it, excellant. Feel free to say things to me i like to listen... most of all excuse my english... i am french.. but read very well. Like most humans i like cats and unlike most humans i do not hate them. ♡

Excellent name, Mr T :D

Amirah | 1 comments Hi I'm Amirah, there's something about bizarro fiction that i think understands me. It's a weird thought but true. I don't know any other people in my age range who read and can appreciate it. My intro book into bizarro was Satan burger by carlton mellick which i highly suggest to fellow bizarro readers (:

Anyone is welcome.

message 308: by Geoffrey (new)

Geoffrey Porter (trulyjuxta) Hi Everybody!

I don't actually know that I'm prepared to define Bizarro fiction, and I'm not, I have no clue... But I see it around... I don't know that I've ever read any... I may have written some though...

message 309: by K (new)

K (nijikon) | 2 comments I'm Kat. I can't write for shit (I'm actually just punching the keyboard in impotent rage to type this post) but I can draw a bit. You can find me at http://nijikon.net.
I'm a big fan of Steve Ayelett.
Um.
Yeah.

message 310: by Michael (new)

Michael (michaelnoe) | 31 comments I'm Mike and I have been a fan of bizarro for a little over a year. I discovered Sorry, I Ruined Your Orgy and it's all been downhill from there

message 311: by Rodney (new)

Rodney | 81 comments Hello. I'm Rodney and bizarro has been a been a big part of me getting back into books after nearly 15 years of hardly touching a novel. It has been nearly a year now and I feel at home reading these books.

Pedro Proença (punksterbass) | 9 comments Hello, I'm Pedro, and I'm really glad to see a group dedicated to this great bizarro world.

Drew Gates (drew_gates) | 5 comments Aloha!

I should have done this a while ago...so here goes.

Before I knew that Bizarro existed, I created my own genre called Acidpunk.

Naturally, I was happy to find that there are like minded freaks out there writing degenerate and very strange prose.

All my Bizarro friends can download a free eBook of my latest published novel HERE

I guarantee this will be one of the best Bizarro books you will read all year!

Michael Allen Rose | 8 comments Hi. I'm Michael Allen Rose. I have no idea how I didn't notice this group existed until today. I'm active in the community and have published books with Eraserhead Press and Dynatox Ministries, and been included in a few anthologies too from the fine folks at Fireside, Bizarro Pulp, etc.

I make music under the name Flood Damage. I like cats and food. I'm really nice. I try not to set fires. Hello.

Hey Michael I'm familiar with your work but have not read it. thanks for joining we are planning upcoming events such as group reads, questions for authors, etc. Also once everything is flying around we are planning a internet party right here in this group. Hi and welcome

message 317: by G. (new)

G. Brown | 26 comments Hi, I'm G. Arthur Brown, author of [redacted]. I joined this group to find out where all the cool kids hang out, what they are reading, what they are thinking about what they are reading, what they think they would want to read next, and how to cook delicious types of food. So far I haven't seen many active threads. Are they hiding from me?

message 320: by [deleted user] (new)

Howdy, all!

I've been working with Donald on reading/reviewing Bizarro fiction since early in 2012. I don't read as much of it as I'd like (or should), but in the last year I've had the pleasure of reviewing Dungeons & Drag Queens, Time Pimp, and You Are Sloth!, while Donald has guest reviewed several others.

I literally just got a copy of A Lightbulbs Lament for review (thanks, Grant), but I'm always open to new titles.

Well, I guess I should have introduced myself much sooner. I'm Teresa, and am a tried and true Bizarro junkie. Donald and I have been reading together for a while, and decided to take the reigns of this group and really get it going. SOOOO...tell us what you would like to see more of, less of, etc. I'm playing with the idea of making a few polls with different ideas that people may or may not enjoy. Hope you all like my face, cause you'll be seeing a lot of it!

message 322: by Rodney (new)

Rodney | 81 comments Hello to all! Almost 2 years ago (yes, this is overdue) I truly found something special in Bizarro and would love to be part of spreading the word. There is no other genre I can think of that is more entertaining or has such a variety within it. Other than being an avid reader, I am a father of two with a full-time career to keep me busy. I also love extreme metal and craft beer. I look forward to connecting and increasing awareness of all the great things bizarro has to offer.

message 323: by G. (new)

G. Brown | 26 comments Do you like Bolt Thrower, man?

message 324: by Rodney (new)

Rodney | 81 comments While I don't listen to them as much these days, Warmaster was the first death metal release I bought. They certainly helped open that door to the more extreme for me.

message 326: by Duncan (new)

Duncan Ralston (userbits) Helloooooooo!

Duncan is an indie author, a horror aficionado, and a possible ax murderer who enjoys writing about himself in the third person!

I've written a book of badass horror short stories, novelettes and novellas, many of which are quite bizarre, GRISTLE & BONE: http://amzn.com/e/B00F23Y41Q

I also feel good when I find other talented authors whose stuff I can share.

S.L. L Koch (slkoch) | 3 comments Hello, my name is S L Koch and about a year and a half ago I started writing Bizarro stories after discovering the genre.

Thing was I guess I was always writing Bizarro I just never had a name for it.

I don't want to just plug the books I've written. I want to find out advice about what you guys enjoy in the genre. What you expect out of other readers, and how I can fulfill those desires.

The end of this year I've planned to push hard with releases and release a lot of stuff next year. My goal is to get something published with an Erasherhead Press label on it.

My first book was gunslinging Judge Judy of the post apocalyptic wasteland fighting Juggalos, Furries, and other bizarre celebrities. I did a short story where the Venom symbiote took over Thomas the train, and another short about a company that lets people kill celebrities... for a price. Publisher asked me to write something will less celebrities in it.

My next book is a noir occult detective story about a street drug that turns people into neonazis called Liquid Hitler.

But none of that matters.

What matters is reaching out and finding people who like Bizarro. You guys can help me be better at what I do.

Thank you.

Michael Argyros | 17 comments Hello there. I very recently stumbled upon Bizarro Fiction by chance, due to a Facebook post someone made about The Haunted Vagina. Since then I've powered through about four of Carlton Mellick III's books and I'm eager for more. I feel like I've come home. Looking forward to discovering more authors of this amazing and exciting genre.

Rick (rwestbrock) | 143 comments I just started reading bizarro maybe two years ago but really enjoy it. Reading sci-fi all the time got boring so I started branching out. I just started reading The Fetus and Other Stories the other day but my favorite bizarro author to date is Wol-vriey.

I am glad to see a couple of familiar faces from one of my other groups here also.

WAVES BACK!!! ;-) Nice to see this thread picking up! Tom is being a bona fide gentleman, welcoming everyone! Thanks, Tom (and all the rest of you guys keeping this thread going). I don't find myself on this thread very often because of being on my phone...I have to scroll through 300+ comments to get to the 'newbies,' so for any newcomers, WELCOME!!! If you have and questions about anything, PM me or one of the other mods and we'll do our best to answer your questions. I, personally, don't mind you all putting links to your books here, because let's face it- your book IS part of who you are. Just don't spam us to death once you've already 'introduced' yourself, please (I don't see anyone doing this, so I'm not singling anyone out here). If you've introduced yourself here a few months back and have a new book coming out, head over to the 'Author Promotion Area (and ish)' and let us know there. Self-pimping IS absolutely encouraged within reason. We DO wanna know about your book, just maybe not 100 times in a week. Okay, that went off into a tangent. Sorry bout that.

Also, if you're new, head on over to the 'Buddy Reads' & 'Group Reads' folders and see if we may happen to be reading something you've got and would like to read with us. Us Bizarros are very welcoming, so don't hesitate to jump in on a buddy read or whatever! We won't bite, promise!!!

Finally, there are some giveaways going on...those would be in the *ahem* 'GIVEAWAYS' folder (DUH), so maybe you can win something while you're here!

WELCOME, WELCOME, WELCOME, EVERYONE!!!

Tom Lucas (readtomlucas) | 85 comments Thanks Teresa! Many of my friends describe me as "fucking classy."

I am so happy to have a reason to spend time on Goodreads. I haven't been the biggest lover of it. But this changes everything!

*Waves Back

I haven't been very active on GR for a while because I've been working crazy hours. I've been trying to change that now that this group has some new blood pumping through it. I've been actively trying to get FaceBook traffic over here to GoodReads with giveaways and stuff.

For anybody who doesn't know who I am, my real name is Etienne and I am the owner/operator of Rooster Republic Press and StrangeHouse Books. I work a lot but I try to stay up to date with my messages. Feel free to drop me a line sometime. :)

message 342: by Rick (new)

Rick (rwestbrock) | 143 comments Heh, I didn't know that! I just knew I liked your style from your reviews and posts in that other group with the name too long to type. :)

message 343: by David (new)

David Bernstein | 4 comments I mostly write horror novels/novellas (The Unhinged, co-author of Jackpot), but I have written a bizarro book entitled Fecal Terror. Apparently, there are quite a few people who don't want to read about a boy who screws up a demon summoning ritual and creates a demonic turd. But there are a small amount of people that do want to read about such a shitty subject. So I wrote this book. My next title will be Tossing Cookies, about, yeah, you guessed it. Fecal Terror by David Bernstein
