These two are towards the top of my list of books to get my hands on. Apocalypse Donkeys should be on its way, and I'll probably order Super People when I'm on my uni break in a few weeks' time. Glad to hear you approve. I'm also keen on picking up one of Sam Pink's new books, I haven't read any yet and I've been meaning to for a while. And I think A Plague of Wolves and Women sounds fascinating.

message 203: by Dustin (new)

Dustin Reade | 15 comments I actually just finished "The No Hellos Diet" about a week ago. It was INCREDIBLE! Sam Pink really knows what he is doing when it comes to writing short novels about ex-girlfriends and Wal-Mart Super Stores.

message 204: by S.T. (new)

S.T. Cartledge | 7 comments Yeah, I read a short story from one of his new books and it's definitely got me interested in reading more of his stuff. Before then, I was just going off what I heard. And I'm pretty keen on the stuff coming from Lazy Fascist Press.

Allen Taylor (poetwarrior) | 7 comments Is there a list, somewhere, of bizarro fiction markets? Places where writers can submit their works? I mean, beyond The Magazine of Bizarro Fiction? There are a few listed in Duotrope's, but I'm curious if anyone has put together a list in one place?

Allen Taylor (poetwarrior) | 7 comments Thanks Dustin,

I've been browsing the Bizarro Central publishers list. It is a bit out of date, though there are some good pubs on there. It could use some updating. Thanks. :-)

message 209: by Bradley (last edited Oct 04, 2011 03:05AM) (new)

Bradley (bradley_sands) | 60 comments There are few publications devoted to bizarro fiction. As far as print journals, perhaps the only one besides The Magazine of Bizarro Fiction is my own: Bust Down the Door and Eat All the Chickens. Although submissions are closed until the next issue is released. That should occur either this month or next month.

As far as online sites, I would recommend Bizarro Central itself, The Dream People, The New Flesh, Unicorn Knife Fight, and Garrett Cook's Nuckelavee (which I assume will be online rather than print--I'm not sure since the first issue hasn't come out yet).

As far as submitting books, Eraserhead Press has their whole New Bizarro Author Series thing, Lazy Fascist Press accepts queries, Raw Dog Screaming Press is currently accepting novel submissions, and Atlatl Press is accepting submissions until the end of the month.

Thanks, Bradley. I'll keep an eye out for the next issue of BDTDAEATC. I didn't know Garrett Cook was starting his own journal. I'll look for that as well.

I've been reading some of The Dream People, The New Flesh, and Unicorn Knife Fight. They are cool places to visit. I was recently published at The Mustache Factor, another new bizarro site. I was just wondering if there were any new places popping up that aren't on Bizarro Central's list. It seems they pop up then disappear. Terribly sad.

message 211: by Bradley (new)

Bradley (bradley_sands) | 60 comments No, not really. Start your own site.

Dustin Reade | 15 comments Bradley wrote: "No, not really. Start your own site."

Good advice! That's what i did: http://mustachefactor.blogspot.com/

message 213: by Allen (new)

Allen Taylor (poetwarrior) | 7 comments Dustin, I like it. Dustin actually published a story of mine recently.

Bradley, I'd love to start my own. Unfortunately, I have websites now that I don't update for lack of time. I had to do some creative time management to carve out the time to write some stories. If my situation ever changes, then I just might start my own. Meanwhile, I'm happy supporting the few that are there. :-)

Just bought these books, looking forward to them oh so much.

message 215: by Stephen (new)

Stephen Biro (stephenbiro) | 12 comments Howdy do... Name is Stephen Biro and I run Unearthed Films. Just joined Goodreads since I have a new book coming out Oct 21st called Hellucination.Hellucination Mass Market Paperback
I actually submitted it to the guys at Eraser Press but my book has a Christian slant to it to say the least so it was turned down. Their loss. LOL

Anyway, I'm brand new here. Been working on my book for over ten years since it's so intense and out there. Why I tried Eraser in the first place because the normal publishers weren't ready for a drug fueled trip to Hell, meeting God, Satan and enough gore and psychedelics that would make TImothy Leary take notice. LOL

So take it easy on me. I'm new and wish I knew about this place cause it's a Hell of a lot better then Facebook. Ahhh... fellow readers... nice to be in the company of the intelligent again. LOL

Anyway, love the stuff

You were told it was too Christian to publish?

You've been jewed.

message 217: by Stephen (new)

Stephen Biro (stephenbiro) | 12 comments Naw... they said that were too Aetheist. If that makes any sense. LOL

message 218: by Christy (new)

Christy Stewart (christyleighstewart) | 179 comments Mod
Translate it into English and it might...

message 219: by Stephen (new)

Stephen Biro (stephenbiro) | 12 comments My post or the book? LOL

They told me they were Atheists and wouldn't release anything with a Christian angle to it.

There... that's better. LOL

message 220: by Christy (new)

Christy Stewart (christyleighstewart) | 179 comments Mod
Who said it? Let's go save their asses.

message 221: by Stephen (new)

Stephen Biro (stephenbiro) | 12 comments LOL We can do a drive by baptism shooting with water guns.

Now that would be funny.

message 222: by Bradley (last edited Oct 18, 2011 05:48PM) (new)

Bradley (bradley_sands) | 60 comments They'd probably publish a book that satirized Christianity or religion in general, such as Carlton Mellick's Satan Burger. Or for example: http://carltonmellick.com/2011/07/25/...

Plus they've never published a memoir. Only fiction.

Also it's EraserHEAD Books (like David Lynch's first full-length movie), not Eraser.

message 223: by Christy (new)

Christy Stewart (christyleighstewart) | 179 comments Mod
No doubt.

In all honesty, Stephen, I hope your book sucks because if that really was the reason for your rejection that is disappointing. I love theology and I love seeing it's representations in all different forms of literature.

message 224: by Stephen (new)

Stephen Biro (stephenbiro) | 12 comments Thanks, I think. LOL Yeah, I'm friends with them on Facebook due to the extreme horror thing and know the editor and he didn't even want to read it due the theology and God/Satan thing in it.

I know it doesn't suck. LOL I had three editors on it, Kealan Patrick Burke was the last and he was highly impressed as were the rest. He said he was having a hard time polishing it because he was getting into it too much. I've given out copies to my writer friends so far and all of them are flabberghasted. Told me it was the best book they read in years, which sort of floored me since these guys have been writting for years

I also have a couple of Phd's wanting to write the forward to it that study theology and LSD at MAPS.org. The Multidisciplenary Association for Psychedelic Studies. I write for the newsletter now, they came to me after they got wind of the book.

Interesting and since it's self published, I can change it whenever I need to and adding a forward from a college professor is pretty easy.

I only shopped it around for a month and the rejection letters were interesting. It's too unique for our label. Can you tone down the drug use and violence? I had two Christian agents courting me and that's exactly what they said. Can you tone down Hell and take out the cursewords and even whitewash some of the drug use? Those agents were looking for a 23 minutes in Hell type of book. Other agents didn't know where it would fall under. Horror, memoir, religion, drug addiction? They were sort of baffled but since it didn't fall under a specific genre, they passed.

I even made sure two of my editors were atheists to get their take on it and they said it was astounding, never pushing my beliefs on anybody and even leaving the trip to Hell open for interpretation was a remarkable move on my part.

Luckily, since this is my first book, some of my writer friends who read it wants to help me push it and get it out there because they said it's one of those important books that needs to be read. Saying, it's going to be a slow burn type of book that when people read it, they will tell other people since it is so unique.

It's why I hit the Bizarro guys up. It's just so out there and when I went thru it, I was going out of my mind. Reincarnation, splitting of the ego, possession of friends by other entities, meeting the Devil, not knowing it until after the fact then meeting God and then being sent to Hell.

I know, I sound insane. You should have seen me at a couple of author panels at a horror convention I just came back from. Sort of freaked people out. I sold 25 copies of the limited edition version that is S&N with an alternate cover at 25 bucks each. That was nice.

Self publishing is totally different then the dvd business I do with Unearthed Films but I have a lot of fans from that so it's been helping sales. I've been telling everyone the release date for Hellucination is Oct 21st. Sort of funny since Harold Camping said it would be the end of the world. I didn't know that until today. LOL

Sorry for bending your ear too much. Just excited about the release coming up. I'm going to be doing a give-away for ten copies here to get the word out on Good reads. I have it available on eBook up here and you can read 21% of it to see if your interested. It's really weird since it's a memoir that details my childhood, loss of faith and up. I tell everyone, just get to chapter 6, then it's going to get crazy and lucky for me, advanced readers enjoy the childhood chapters enough to not put it down.

Just whatever you do... look out for Alien Spiders. Their a bitch.

Stephen Biro (stephenbiro) | 12 comments LOL... Ha ha... how's sales going for you? Let me know if you want to trade for fun and reviews. Getting ready to send out copies to mags and websites in hte horror community because that's all I know...

Grumble mumble... make me edit my post cause I sounded like an idiot... mumble grumble... LOL

Stephen Biro (stephenbiro) | 12 comments More sarcasm... I like it... I just know the gore industry and pushing the book thru there, don't know if it will fly and I really don't know any horror book review sites.

Take it easy on my. LOL I just meant I can ship a copy out to you while shipping to whoever I am. LOL

Sarah | 1 comments Well...looks like I'm about 3 years late for the party, but here goes.

I'm Sarah. I live in Alaska. I enjoy reading Bizarro, horror, Urban Fantasy, but NOT Paranormal Romance. I like to shop local and I'm an omnivore. I'm a Sergeant in the Bizarro Brigade.

I joined Goodreads to see what all the hub-bub was about.

Thank you for the offer, Stephen, I would normally take it but I have a lot lined up in the next few months and couldn't promise a review anytime soon.

Welcome Sarah and don't worry, I read enough romance for the both of us.
