My artistic/literary influences include, bizarro (Mellick, Krall, Prunty, Sands, among others), Raymond Carver, Dickens, Flannery O'Connor, Poe, Bukowski, Russell Edson, Stephen King; and Wes Anderson movies, Ken Russell films, Woody Allen, many horror movies, Gozu, Lynch, Cronenberg, Bergman, Todd Solondz, and good comedy, such as the deadpan delivery of Chevy Chase and Bill Murray, and Mel Brooks films.
'Less is more' is sort of my writing policy, if I have a writing policy. Artistically, I love the perverse, the grotesque, the gothic, the bizarre, the philosophical.
Anyway, look forward to interacting with you folks.
Randy

Anyway, I reminded myself to come here because I found a 1st edition of The Electric Jesus Corpse at a used bookstore. So, you can imagine the double-takes that took place.
Hi, I am Kim. At least I hope that's what pops up in the corner after I push post. I enjoy reading and writing. Not so much arithmetic. Just got confirmation that I got a short story in The Big Book of Bizarro that is coming out in Sept. so I am stoked. I actually just fell into this bizarro scene recently, beginning with El Superbeasto showing up in my mailbox and culminating most recently with my snapping up a variety of bizarro on my kindle and waking in the middle of the night with some fun, freaky ideas. I have to admit that so far, I'm about 50/50 for like/dislike what I've read. A lot is totally fun and a lot is meh, skip that. But I do believe that is the way with all types of books. You don't like every writer's style, even if you adore the genre.
Before someone asks, I will admit that I haven't read the starter kits yet because they aren't avail. electronically, but I will very likely kill a tree soon and order them. I realize that I cannot be taken seriously until I have those under my belt.
Thanks for the anticipated warm and fuzzy welcome:)

@ Pat--Keep the faith, Brother.

I think they posted a call for subs here somewhere, Dustin. I saw it on the Erotica Readers and Writers site. What, you don't hang out over there????? Screw you for judging me.

Here you are, dirty girl. Actually, it's a very informative and well kept-up site.... With lots of great dirty links.

Nice. I don't want to be turned on, and yet...I'm going to go brush my teeth now.

I recently read a book called The Pilo Family Circus it was listed as horror-bizarro. Is this considered bizarro fiction?
Pilo Family Circus is not listed as Bizarro because it does not come from a Bizarro press or Bizarro author. You can find out about exactly what Bizarro is at http://www.bizarrocentral.com or by reading this article on Cracked: http://www.cracked.com/funny-8020-biz.... I've heard Pilo Family Circus is certainly strange and might appeal to Bizarro fans, but it isn't really from a Bizarro context.

But isn't it possible that a non-bizarro publisher could publish a work of bizarro fiction? Static Movement just released a Bizarro anthology (shameless plug, as it features two of my stories),and they are mentioned briefly on the Bizarro Central page, but they are not a bizarro publisher.

I've been meaning to check out Pilo Family Circus for a while. Since I went through a phase watching Carnivale and writing gothic carnival stories. What did you think of it?

One of these days I'm going to figure out how to switch my profile over to the author profile.

It is. It's happened, but usually with the intention of writing a Bizarro book. Since Bizarro is as much a movement as a genre, it's good to at least restrict classification to books made with Bizarro intent or within the community.

I can dig it.

Just sayin'.

Personally, I liked Apesh*t. The Deadite Press books lean towards horror.

I like bikinis, ice cream, and meat-flavoured potato chips. You can usually find me causing trouble all over the internets as "MissAndree."

Allen here. I'm into weird shit. I read it. I write it. I eat it. Sometimes I just dick it around.
For the past 20 years I have written and published poetry. Nothing weird. Pretty mainstream. But good. In the last couple of years, however, I've discovered Bizarro and have tried writing some fiction. Had a piece published at The Four Cornered Universe: http://fourcornereduniverse.com/?p=2285.
I'm not really sure if I fit into the Bizarro genre or not, but I've like some of what I've read. I really liked the Bizarro anthology I read (Purple) and the issue of Bizarro magazine I purchased. Cameron Pierce is one freaked out dude, which is why I like him.
I'm working on a few more short stories and a novella in hopes that I might make a little ripple in the Bizarro world. If not, at least I have a few weird memories. I'm looking for more weird shit to read. I like Vonnegut-style humor.

No Problemas, Kim!
Gracias for the amazing story!
Your mind is strange!
EXCLAMATIONS!!!!!!

I'm just finishing up a bizarro novella called "Freaks That Carry Your Luggage Up to the Room," I'll post more when it's published later this month. Cheers.
