Vincent Hello...just a small introduction...was recently steered toward the Bizarro "movement" by an author's critique of one of my stories...I've picked up a few books to see what's what, and (yeah) I suppose I write Bizarro fiction...I guess I should have listened to my father's advice when he said "This is bizarre!" when he read my first story back in junior high. Silly me, all this time I thought he just didn't understand it, when he was really pointing me toward home.

Looking forward to learning more, talking shop, and whatever other shenanigans in which we find ourselves involved...

Welcome to the group. You might want to try out the forum on bizarrocentral.com, you'll find lots more there.

Took your advice...thanks!

Tracy S Hi guys,
I'm new to the group and relatively new to Bizarro fiction. I'm looking to read more of it...sounds like the starter kits will be in my near future! Would also like to find more authors like Mykle Hansen. Any suggestions?

Good to meet you all!

I suggest you go to bizarrocentral, make a thread asking who is the coolest, and let them all fight for your money.

Steve Lowe (steve_lowe) | 7 comments Howdy y'all, I'm the new guy. Like Shamel and Mays and Barbee and Cushing, I'm a New Bizarro Author. Mine (MUSCLE MEMORY) is coming out in Oct. 2010. I recently finished the first draft of my next novella, it's about John Wayne's escaped stomach tumor, which goes on to become northern Italy's most famous bomb disposal technician. Besides writing, I also do stupid interviews on my blog and cover sports part-time for the South Bend (Ind.) Tribune. There's very little fiction involved with the latter occupation.

Hello there Steve. Make merry.

message 108: by Brian (new)

Brian Tasler | 6 comments Hello fellow Bizarros and authors. I have been reading a steady diet of Bizarro for a year or so after stumblong across a story by the one and only Carlton Mellick online.

One comment I would like to make is to say thanks to all the Bizarro authors who are always willing to respond to questions or requests, no matter how disturbing some of them may be. You just don't get that in other genres.

message 112: by Omino (new)

Omino Pascal | 1 comments Hi, My name is Omino. I can't remember when I started actively searching for Bizarro fiction, but I've always loved weird or surreal fiction, and write it amateurishly for my own entertainment/therapy.

I've only really read bizarro fiction on the internet, but am planning to buy some stuff, like the blue and orange kits, maybe some stuff by Andersen Prunty (Well, I'm reading "The Beard" online, and like what I see). Carlton Mellick III also seems like a good choice. I'm anticipating good times on this forum :)

message 113: by Bryan (new)

Bryan Galstere (ThenewAmericanPsycho) | 19 comments HEY EVERYONE, my name is Bryan,OBVIOUSLY. I just started reading 'bizarro', and i love it! I'm basically into anything extreme, horror, weird and over the top...I honestly can say that my reading ranges from basically every group possible. to the most modest and pure literature to the most bizarre and grotesque books imaginable. Glad to be a part of this group and find out more about bizarro, and to just get recommendations on new and upcoming books in this up and coming genre...

You have the name of someone I had a bad relationship with...But I wont hold it against you!

message 115: by Bryan (new)

Bryan Galstere (ThenewAmericanPsycho) | 19 comments haha okay, thanks , but did he spell it with a 'Y', because that's the cool way, but i'm sure you'll find someone better;)

Christy Stewart (christyleighstewart) | 179 comments Mod
He did...

There was one with an i too.

I cannot get along with this name!

message 117: by Bryan (new)

Bryan Galstere (ThenewAmericanPsycho) | 19 comments haha nice, maybe you're just predisposed to dating the name, you never know... well, i'm going to try extra hard so that we get along, and are your books that you've written transgressive or bizarro? recommend one..

message 118: by Christy (new)

Christy Stewart (christyleighstewart) | 179 comments Mod
They are mostly just crappy, save your money.

Now you feel bad and will buy them all.

message 119: by Bryan (new)

Bryan Galstere (ThenewAmericanPsycho) | 19 comments no, i don't....sorry....but i am going to buy 'familiar scars'

message 120: by Bryan (new)

Bryan Galstere (ThenewAmericanPsycho) | 19 comments it looks intriguing, and hey since your into bizarro, have you read murderland 1 or 2? i just ordered those and your book, and the morning is dead by andersen prunty

Christy Stewart (christyleighstewart) | 179 comments Mod
Of course it is! Garrett Cook is a brilliant writer.

message 124: by Kirk (new)

Kirk (bizarrojones) | 10 comments Hello. I'm Kirk Jones. I was just published as a part of the NBAS series this year. But enough about that. The reason I joined this group was to review the books I have had a chance to read and have come to love, such as Carlton Mellick's The Steel Breakfast Era, Kevin Donihe's The Greatest Fucking Moment in Sports, Bradley Sands' Sorry I Ruined Your Orgy and Jeff Burk's Shatnerquake. I just purchased twelve bizarro books at BizarroCon this year and look forward to reading and reviewing them soon.

Christy Stewart (christyleighstewart) | 179 comments Mod
............Is that your real name?

message 126: by Steve (new)

Steve Lowe (steve_lowe) | 7 comments Kirk Jones! Kirk Jones is a fine human being. I know because I met him in person and declared him to be a fine human being. And I'm currently reading his book 'Uncle Sam's Carnival if Copulating Inanimals' and enjoying it.

message 127: by J. (new)

J. Guevara (jguevara) | 1 comments Christy, is that your real pic?
@steve, caris... thanks for clearing that up. gotta check out his book, now. it's just the kind of title Christy would jump all over. can't wait til she reviews it.
@Kirk: Send Christy a copy, her review throw weight. She called my book, "Bill and 'Ted's Excellent Adventure'. Sales tripled overnight.

I would normally bust your balls over your questioning my photo but begging for freebies for me saved you.

message 129: by Kirk (new)

Kirk (bizarrojones) | 10 comments Thanks for the clarification guys. All of my students are rushing out to get the screenplay of Waking Ned Devine because I told them I have a new book out and that's one of the first items that comes up when they type my name in on Amazon. At least they're not confusing me for Kirk "sticky fingaz" Jones yet.

message 130: by Kirk (new)

Kirk (bizarrojones) | 10 comments and thanks for the kind words Steve and Caris. You guys are great too. It was a pleasure meeting and talking to you both last weekend.

message 131: by Anita (new)

Anita Dalton (anita_dalton) | 6 comments Hi, I'm Anita and I wallow in bizarro. I am oldish and I am a lady with cats and I live in an improbably named suburb.

message 132: by Kirk (new)

Kirk (bizarrojones) | 10 comments Hi Anita. Welcome to the bizarro community. I look forward to seeing your reviews next week.

message 133: by Kirk (new)

Kirk (bizarrojones) | 10 comments And judging from your picture, you are not a day over 19. Just saying :)

message 134: by Anita (new)

Anita Dalton (anita_dalton) | 6 comments Kirk, I look so young because I bathe in the blood of young bizarro authors. It's better than botox and, frankly, cheaper. :)

message 135: by Kirk (new)

Kirk (bizarrojones) | 10 comments Lucky for me there is a plethora of bizarro authors younger than me. Even better that I am just a bizarro hopeful. You'll have to wait until October of this year to bathe in my middle-aged blood.

message 136: by Kirk (new)

Kirk (bizarrojones) | 10 comments That is, if I make the cut.

message 142: by S.T. (new)

S.T. Cartledge | 7 comments I'm Shane. I've been reading Bizarro for about six months now. I'm a bizarro/postmodern writer studying Creative Writing/Literary and Cultural Studies at uni (third year) and I'm hoping to get some substantial, quality writing under my belt so I can start getting my stories published. Over the past few months I've gotten to know a few bizarros (as much as one can 'know' another over the internet), through blogs and facebook and bizarro central and now I'm on goodreads. I got Uncle Sam's Carnival of Copulating Inanimals in the mail today, so I'll probably read that over the weekend. So, yeah, hi.

message 146: by Scott (new)

Scott Robinson (scottbrobinson) | 1 comments I'm trying to develop a readership and some frank GoodReads reviews for my new eBook: Divine City: Bangkok Fantasies.

So I'm offering free downloads of the title from SmashWords. Just enter the coupon code "UB62B" to download the work for free. There are many eBook formats available. The offer is good through May 5th.

This is a collection of short fantastical tales set in modern Bangkok. I think there is something strange contained within for everybody...

Many thanks to readers who are curious about new writers!

Todd Russell (toddrussell) | 1 comments Hello everybody :) My name is Todd Russell. I've been writing strange, spooky stories for a long time and have just published my first book Mental Shrillness a collection of six twist ending horror short stories.

I am going on a blog book tour in a couple days and would love to see some of you that can make it to one or more of these stops. In fact, the first tour stop on Sunday, Monster Brains, seems like a good fit for this group. We will be exploring some fantastic bizarre art and illustrations from talented artist, Aeron Alfrey.

My favorite authors are Stephen King, Robert McCammon and Rod Serling (cue Twilight Zone music) and I'm always interested in good new reads: indie or trad pub, ebook, paper or hardcover, doesn't matter.

Nice to meet everybody here :)

Did I never do this? Okay.

Hi guys! I like bizarro but today I am reading Forgive Us Our Trespasses instead. Here is a quote from the back of the book:

"Alison raised her face and offered him her parted lips. 'Don't you love me - even a little, Dinny?'

'I mustn't! We can't!' he whispered. 'You-are-my-sister.'"
