Deborah (dbcarlson) I just got my copy of Robin Robertson's new update to Vegan Planet from my local library. It has an amazing wealth of recipes and advice. At this point I have been mainly browsing and have found many recipes I'd like to try. The section on sauces and dressings opens up a new world for me. I made the Cuban Black Bean Soup today. It tastes delicious but is not nearly as thick as I hoped it would be. Next time I make it I will increase the amount of beans to a 1 pound package rather than the 1 1/2 cups recommended by the recipe. Right now I am cooking up the rest of the black beans from the package and will add them to the soup. Then, I will remove about 1/3 to 1/2 the soup and blend it to make the thicker soup I'd like. There are no pictures in this cookbook, however, the more than 425 recipes included makes up for the lack of photos. I definitely plan to purchase this wonderful new cookbook!

Lisa Vegan (lisavegan) Deborah, Do you know what the updates are? I have the original book.

Lisa Vegan (lisavegan) I also like very thick soups, almost always.

Deborah (dbcarlson) According to information on the back cover, this revised updated version contains 50 new recipes as well as extensive updates throughout. She also covers the newly expanded range of whole grains that are now available, popular super greens such as kale and ways to cook with minimal oil. She has also added master recipes for ingredients such as vegan sausage and vegan cheese sauces in order to help us avoid processed foods. I would suggest borrowing a copy from your library and comparing it to the original cookbook.

Lisa Vegan (lisavegan) Thanks, Don! I have the original version. I won't be also buying this new one, but I might try to take a look at it.

Deborah (dbcarlson) Looks delicious, Don. I returned my copy to the library. I think I need to buy the book. I can get the original Vegan Planet used at a substantial savings. Do you think the revised edition would be a better choice?

Lisa Vegan (lisavegan) Don, Thanks for the link to the recipe!

Lisa Vegan (lisavegan) This link might be of interest. The new edition kind of makes me wish I didn't already have the old, but the original one is a good book too:
