Hi Todd.I was attracted by your post because Asimov's 'The End of Eternity' was the first time travel novel I have ever read (not in English, but in my native Language). It was when I was 15... that is more than 30 years ago.... It impressed me, then I forgot it, then decades passed, etc. etc.
Only one year ago I started to write, and to write sci-fi, mostly time-travel related... and to do in English. At first, a couple short stories, then a novel. Nothing else, since I have an ordinary job (for which I must write something totally different). I did it just in my spare time.
Anyhow, as soon as I saw your post I remembered about this book, and I realized how much influence it has had, perhaps at subconscious level, in my recent fiction writing.
I am not writing to promote my work :-) just, if you are intersted, I will send you for free a copy. Why? Well, it uses time travel to go to a certain period... but it is not as simple as you describe above. It also explains how that specific time travel works, and in the last chapters also how history is changed by the main character's actions.

I recommend The Corridors of Time by Poul Anderson. It's more of a fun adventure than The End of Eternity.
The time ships for sure, that was an awesome book.

1: Time travel used as a plot device to tell a generally unrelated story "My dad/girlfriend is lost (in time)! Let's go find him/her."
2: A period story wrapped in a thin layer of time travel "Oh no, I've been transported to medieval times!"...medieval adventure ensues
3: Science fiction time travel
To me, the first two could have cut & pasted some other plot device or maybe removed the time travel aspect entirely. Not to put them down, mind you - there are good books there.
The third is about time travel - how it might work, what changes can & can't be made, how it effects the people who do it, etc.
I love this book because of its exploration of time travel. I didn't particularly like the main character, and that was fine because the story was so interesting to me, and the details of time travel and its consequences were actually discussed. So what I'm wondering is: what else is there like this?
