The first line of my book is...
"I wasn’t sure what woke me. The howling wind from the first hardcore blizzard of the year had calmed last night and my room was quiet. Peaceful. I rolled onto my side and blinked."
"It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single girl of high standing at Longbourn Academy must be in want of a prom date."
"A tree branch slapped John Craig across the face, scraping his skin, but he kept on running and ignored the stabbing of pine needles on his bare feet. He could hear the man's footsteps behind him, echoing his own. "
"I took a deep breath. You are awesome. I didn’t quite believe it so I thought it again. Awesome. You are so awesome."
“Killing a vampire is actually a lot easier than you’d think. I know movies and TV make it look really hard, like if you don’t hit the right spot, it won’t work. But the truth is, those are just rumors spread by vampire hunters to make themselves seem tougher.”
"Tell me child, what do you remember?"Huh . . . how about that, I had to go check. :) Thanks for posting this one!!! Cool thread.
Earthlings
"Every morning I wake up and tell myself this: It's just one day, one twenty-four-hour period to get yourself through."
"Herein lies the faithful and true account of my last sixty days, by Katrik, brother of Amar, loyal son of the Rakshana, and of the strange visitation I received that has left me wary on this cold English night. To begin at the beginning, I ust go back to the middle days of October, after the misfortune occurred"

Am I a dick for thinking this is a pretty emo opening line?
The morning after noted child prodigy Colin Singleton graduated from high school and got dumped for the nineteenth time by a girl named Katherine, he took a bath.
Pretty nonchalant opening line. :P Seven chapters in and I'm liking it so far.

Nup. Its a very emo book! Boring, all Adam does in whine poetically. :(
Rustic wrote: "'I'd always welcomed war, but in battle my passion rose unbidden.' -Nightshade, Andrea Cremer"
Awesome opening! :)
"The Wayland Inn was behind the slums, on the west end of Knoxville. It was a place that festered since the War, buzzing with flies that bred in the clogged sewers, stinking of dirty river brought in on the afternoon breeze."
Rachel wrote: "Inês wrote: "
"The goat was in the tree again." "
Ahaha, that's a great first line!! :)"
Hopefully, the rest of the book will be great, too! :)
"This solution is incorrect, Miss Walker."
I looked down at the formula and went back over it carefully. "No, sir. I believe that this is the correct answer. I'm sure I got it right."
"In Iceland, fairies live inside of rocks. Seriously. They have houses in there and schools and amusement parks and everything."
"Each sweep of her soft-bristled brush spanned a frozen eternity."
While not funny, it's an intriguing first line, filled me with curiosity.
" AT FIRST GLANCE, the town houses in Silver Sage Acres are as white and identical as an endless row of bared teeth."
" The scene in the Garvin High School cafeteria, known as the Commons, is being described as “grim” by investigators who are working to identify the victims of a shooting spree that erupted Friday morning."
The office is cozy, brightly lit with cheerful lamps, chintzy armchairs with brightly colored suede, lime green and teal walls and white furniture.
Rachel wheeled her suitcases through the airport terminal, pausing when she realized she'd no idea where she was going.
Sweat rolled down my back and off my arms. The waistband of my jeans was soaked through, but I swung the axe with a sure, steady rhythm in the early afternoon.
The moment I saw Ryland's silhouette in the window of our old tree house, I knew something was wrong.

Kira watched as he languidly stood up, flexing his muscles as though he had awakened from a long lost dream.
