The last book I read was...
I enjoyec most of Rogues. Some let downs but overall not bad.
Just back from holiday and read Prince of Fools by Mark Lawrence for the trip as well as starting Red Seas under Red Skiex by Scott Lynch. Both a great read (although Prince of Fools is definitely a love it or hate it book)

I just finished The Goblin Emperor - an antithesis to our contemporary grim-dark Fantasy. Here's my review
Paul wrote: "I enjoyec most of Rogues. Some let downs but overall not bad."Quite similar for me, I really liked the anthology (my review)
Nice review. Quite the detail :-). Agree with you completely on Scott Lynch's story. I would love to see a series spawn out of tte concept . Hated GRRMs one as well. Bored me to tears.
Love those books, Veronica :D
Just finished Crocodile on the Sandbank, nice light read for the DC vs Marvel Challenge. As of tomorrow I can read fiction guilt free for a few weeks... :o

Just read Perfect State by Brandon Sanderson - great little novella/short story with some really interesting ideas. Classic Sanderson awesomeness!
Ooh have you read them all? I can't believe there is 9 books and they're all at least 800 pages! Exciting :D
Yeah, I'm caught up so far. Also met Diana Gabaldon twice. She's lovely both physically and in the way she talks about writing and responds to her fans.
I have the first on my Kindle which is great for such huge books, but I know I'm going to end up buying physical copies...
@Kirsty I just got Perfect State and three other novellas by Sanderson in the post last week. Glad to know its worth it.
I finished Golden Son recently and I loved it and liked it more than Red Rising. I liked Red Rising but felt too familiar (view spoiler).
I'm about 1/3 of the way through Red Rising and so far I'm quite enjoying it. I agree that there are familiar themes but at least it's done well.
I have Red Rising on my Kindle and the hardback of Golden Son back in the UK, both to review - better get on it D:
I'm just going to jump right in. I just finished Cottonwood by R. Lee Smith. It's basically a District 9 love story but really well written. In the process of reading The Name of the Wind and Blood Song. Oh, and Vicious :) I've had a bit of readers ADD and keep jumping books. Hopefully I'll finish them all soon!
Just finished The World of Ice and Fire by two GRRM super fans and surely not written by the man himself. It was frustratingly terrible, and I am a soft reviewer and usually biased towards ASOIAF in general but this one really gave me that sense of being ripped off by a gimmick book. Tut tut George.
I was tempted to ask for a refund on that one. Crap pretty much sums it up. So so boring. A pretty book with great art and rubbish text
Paul wrote: "Great group of books to be working through. Loved Blood Song and Name of the Wind"So far I think so too! Of the two I think I'm enjoying Blood Song a bit more. Just seems a little faster paced. Of course, I am only in the first third of each so that can definitely change.
It would be a close run thing for me on which was better. I think they were both exceptional books.
Freya wrote: "I last read Graveminder by Melissa Marr, found it in the Works so I don't mind, the story idea is fun but it is a little too YA - love triangle..."I read that not long ago and also thought it felt a little light in the britches. I don't recall a love triangle (my most hated trope!). What I didn't like was the idea of not having a choice in who you "love".
I finished The Desert Spear last night and went straight into The Daylight War. I have a slight niggle about the cover. I started the series in paperback and the first two books had matte covers. This one has a very glossy cover so now it looks like I have a mismatched set. I hate having mismatched sets. Just a personal pet peeve, ignore me. ;)

Last year, we read Leviathan Wakes. Now I just finished Drive, the short story prequel to the Expanse series by Corey. My review is here
on my phone so I can't reply properly! Graveminder had... well maybe not quite a love triangle, but the girl was the central point being pulled in two directions I suppose, close enough to a love triangle in my both - 3 entities involved! Yes, a lack of choice is annoying!
On the subject of graveyards, I've just read The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman. It's the graphic novel version, I have a thing for Gaiman graphic novels :)

Might be a bit late to add this hut blood song and tower lord were AWESOME! definitely one of my new favorite and the third is supposed to come out this summer :)
The Final Empire. I still haven't recovered. Probably won't either for a while. But it's become one of my favorite books of all time.
I finished the second Gentleman Bastards book yesterday , Red Seas Under Red Skies. I enjoyed it but not quite on the same level as The Lies of Locke Lamora
Warm Bodies, watched the film about a month ago with friends and really wanted to read it after :) Cute rom-zom-com!
I really enjoyed the film. I like Zombie films in general but didn't expect much of the film. Its actually very entertaining. Never thought of trying the book
I read The Buried Giant. It was really beautifully written, and a bit "different" as fantasy books go. It did not have too many typical tropes, and was a much slower, more personal story. The narration was like a storyteller having a conversation with you, which I am not always a fan of, but it was very well done here. I felt sympathies and ties to each of the main characters.
For most of the book I was thinking it was truly superb and easily 5-star quality. However my initial suspicions on where the book may be going were proved wrong, and frankly I would have liked the book far more if it turned out the way I had thought it might! By the end--and this is mostly a matter of personal taste, and not truly a fault of what was purposely and rather masterfully crafted--I decided on 4-stars. Spoiling nothing but the book's tone and technique, I was disappointed with paths certain characters took and choices that were made, the overall melancholy feel of the book, and the many vagueries left at the end.
Even though I greatly enjoyed it, and initially felt sure it was becoming a personal classic, I don't think I would read this again. This being my first Kazuo Ishiguro, however, I was impressed with it, and will be checking out some of his other works. Though I will do my best to sift out the most melancholy of them.
Rinn and Paul - I also was pleasantly surprised by warm bodies, I don't mind zombie stuff, though I am not as fanatical as some, but this I just thought was going to be terrible. My wife worked on me for a while because she really wanted to watch it so I eventually gave in and actually quite enjoyed it. The main zombie guys friend zombie was my favorite :)
He was very good all right. Thought he'd just dissapear at some point but he was developed nicely. Very well done film.
I just finished Knights Shadow by Sebastian De Castell , the second of his Greatcoats books.
Wow. Absolutely brilliant. Such a great story , setting and characters

I've heard good things about the first of the Greatcoats books. It's on my TBR list, hopefully moving up soon.
Obsession in Death, book 40 (!) in the In Death series. This is a great run of books that blend sci fi, detective, and thriller with a strong thread of romance, and has a kick-ass heroine in Eve Dallas. I love this series.
I finished Hyperion today - finally had the time to read it and I'm glad I did, because I really liked it. There are quite a few topics I need to find out more about, so I already started with Fall of Hyperion.
Well I recently finished two books in one day but I wanted to mention Assassin's Quest by Robin Hobb (I'm sorry I'm posting this from my phone and I can't figure out how to post the link for the book) anyways it was the third on the farseer trilogy. Really great books. Good deep story and lots of good character growth throughout the series. Anyways it something I highly recommend! And I think that there are other series she wrote based off of this one. I'm not 100% sure how they are or anything though.
Deathbird Stories, a story collection from Harlan Ellison. I highly recommend it - my review is here.

Lisa there are a number of series based in the same world, and all amazing! :) The only trilogy not set there by Hobb is the Solider Son Trilogy.
There is some overlap between far off events in the other series, I would recommend reading in the following order if you want to continue reading about that world she has created:
- Live Ship Trader Trilogy (not Farseers but has future story bearing)
- The Tawny Man Trilogy (back with the Farseers, some overlap starting to happen)
- The Rainwild Chronicles (down south again, but again some overlap starting to happen)
- The Fool's Assassin (First book of another trilogy Hobb is currently writing)
