Finished The Weed Agency: A Comic Tale of Federal Bureaucracy Without Limits which is hilarious in a "this is probably depressingly close to reality" sort of way. The best moments of it are when the characters are interacting with real life figures, in particular Al Gore and Newt Gingrich who's personalities the author writes so well that those section are amazing.

Started on Perdido Street Station which is... bizarre. I hope no idea where any of the plots are going or how they're going to intersect, and I would be shocked if I actually understood what was going on at the end. But, I will continue on regardless in the hopes that my concerns are wrong.

I just finished Luck in the Shadows by Lynn Flewelling. The first half was definitely a more satisfying read than the second, but I picked up the second installment in hopes of seeing improved craft. And hey, I don't see gay or bisexual characters too often so it's a nice change of pace from Rand al'Thor, Ladies' Man.

Finished reading vol 2 of Earl and Fairy, and a dinky book on life in a medieval castle :)

I find Earl and Fairy on the one hand pretty weird and mushy to read as some of the characters actions are just not what you'd do if you were sane, but faeries and folklore references... I can't help myself :D

LOVED IT!! Contemplating writing a review, since I will definitely be reviewing Firefight and I like to review series :P The ending was amazing, and literally through every minute of the story I had everything visualised perfectly in my head.

Make sure you read Mitosis too Rinn . Its a nice bridging story between the two books

Oh frustrating :( I always assume that .5 books aren't necessary, but just add a little more. I'll see how it goes anyway, will be reading Firefight soon. But first The Well of Ascension I think ;)

Speaking of Sanderson, I just finished The Rithmatist last night. I never thought I would be afraid of little chalk drawings, but chalklings are freaky! I love how even when he writes for a younger audience, Sanderson never follows the usual tropes.

I think it was Neil Gaiman who said it but its better to write a book as all age than young adult. I think Sanderson hits that on the head

I really want to read his middle grade series. I guess I'll wait until I finish this cute lil series The Fairy-Tale Detectives Sisters grimm series. Annoying yes but also cute.

Finished up Perdido Street Station which was super weird, trippy, and ultimately too wordy. While everything came together in the end, I feel like you could have cut out 1/3 of it and it would have been a better book. The book just dragged for too long to really keep my interest.

Started on The Blinding Knife book 2 of the Lightbringer Series. Really loved the first one, excited to see where the characters go and what more we can learn about this world.

Still need to find a book that will fit into the final challenge I have to defeat Joker over at Marvel vs. DC challenge. I'm sure I'll find something.

Finished The Blinding Knife really, really enjoyed it. It way the larger world is built out over the course of this book is great with talk of the The Everdark Gates, more info on the satrapies and their differences, and aspects of their world that the Chromeria likes pretend don't exist; old gods, "heretic" colors, and the secret history of the world.

Jumping straight into The Broken Eye. Hopefully this series continues to be just as good.

I just finished re-reading Running with the Demon. Just as good this time as it was the first time I read it. Recommend it to anyone who enjoys urban fantasy. :)

I'm currently juggling Handcuffs and Lace in physical form and Earthrise on my phone through the Kindle app. The Giver is also in the back seat of our car for 'emergency' reading (in the case we forgot to bring a book and are bored out of our gord somewhere), and I have a pile I've been meaning to go through back at home.

Since I last checked in I have finished The Broken Eye and Annihilation.

The Broken Eye was good, though it felt very much like a transitional book, setting things up for book 4 in the series. I liked how many of the characters evolved (Kip, Karris, Teia) but after the action and hints of the larger world we got in The Blinding Knife I couldn't help but think that it was a let down.

Annihilation was... strange. I've never ready anything quite like it. I spent the first half of the book gradually realizing that there wasn't to be an explanation about what was going on because it was a world that. After I accepted that I enjoyed the rest of the ride. Very interested to see what the story of the sequels is.

Taking a break from in depth stuff and doing a re-read of Lock In. I'm interested to see if I still enjoy it as much knowing what happens this time.

Finished Lock In. Didn't enjoy it as much on the re-read since I knew all the details of the conspiracy. But I still appreciated Scalzi's writing and dialogue between Shane and Vann constantly cracked me up.

Now working on The Way of Shadows which hasn't grabbed me the way his other series Lightbringer did. I'm only 33% in so there's still time for things to turn around, but so far I don't feel any connection to the world or characters.

I didn't connect with the characters after the entire book, so I'm probably not going to finish that series. I'll check out Lightbringer though!

I agree about Way of Shadows. The Black Prism is the first book of the Lightbringer series, which I really enjoyed. It has a similar writing style, as you would expect, but the characters are better and the world better developed. The second book is where it really gets good though.

Just recently read malice and valor by John Gwynne back to back. Have to say I was super impressed and the series has the making to be one of my top 3-5. I believe malice won the David gemmell award.

I keep meaning to buy Malice. I read the Grail Quest books by Bernard Cornwell with a sword called Malice in them and the John Gwynne book has caught my eye because of that. I'll have to take the plunge at some point

To me the series is almost like taking the best parts of ASOIAF and wheel of time series then making it better. Has a high fantasy feel to it as well but can be darker and grittier at times too. I'm a little biased though because I absolutely loved them.
