I've just finished Infernal Devices, for one of my first attempts at a 'steampunk' book I have to say I loved it. It shares a sense of humour with Robert Rankin books.

Lel, if you want some recommendations for steampunk I would recommend The Clockwork Century series by Cherie Priest beginning with Boneshaker

I found the series to be a strong representative of being a straight up steampunk series. It it set in an alternate civil war period.

Would of course also recommend the Tales of the Ketty Jay series by Chris Wooding if you want something with more humor in it. (it's one of my favourite series of any genre)

Last book I read was a re-read of The Name of the Wind which of course means I am now re-reading Wise Man's Fear. I am likely subconsciously hoping it will mean Doors of Stone will come out sooner but no hopes up.

I absolutely found that I noticed quite a bit of things I did not the first time through, some things which may be possible hints towards book 3 or future books and some things I plain just never out together last time through.

Highly enjoyable for sure.

Just finished Cress, the third book in the Lunar Chronicles. It's a good series, I don't find it as amazing as many of my blogger friends but I like it. Clever fairy tale retellings with a sci-fi twist.

Same here, I read the first two books so far. Liked them, didn't fall completely in love as so many did, but they were worth it nonetheless!

I read a short novella by Brandon Sanderson yesterday called Perfect State. It's a sci-fi with an interesting take on virtual reality. Only 87 pages or so, but so full of great world building and interesting characters!

I really enjoyed Perfect State as well. A lot of world building in such a short story. Sanderson did a lovely signed version with another Novella for his last tour .

I keep looking at Boneshaker and for one reason or another haven't got round to it yet. But have just seen that you nominated it for Feb so maybe, just maybe......

I have read 'Retribution Falls' and loved it, but again for some reason haven't got further in the series. It reminded me of Firefly and I loved it.

My husband recently fell in love with steampunk, so I'm going to remember these. I did buy Retribution Falls on Kindle and hope to get to it soon.

I also finished Cress recently. The series is cute and all, but it's not something I'm totally in love with. It seems most ideal for teen girls -- which is fine.

I just finished The Aeronaut's Windlass and once I got into the story it was great fun. In all honesty, I had just read Fool's Assassin before starting Aeronaut's Windlass, and it was hard to dive into something more lighthearted after the depth of the story in Fool's Assassin. Anything on my reading list that follows a book by Hobb has a lot to overcome as I love her worlds.
That said, I really had fun with how Butcher included a coming of age story in a steampunk world without making the characters act like love sick children. It held my interest pretty well, and the quirkiness of a few characters kept me laughing.

I just finished The Affinity Bridge, and really enjoyed it. It was a fun and quick read. I am currently halfway Irons in the Fire, and its prety good as well.

The Affinity Bridge was on my book radar a couple of years ago when I was on a Steampunk kick. Will have to add it to my to read list.

Read the blurb for it again and it certainly seems to be about as core steampunk as possible with the Victorian London setting.

I finished Red Queen - a YA dystopian. I've seen it compared to Hunger Games very often, while I can see some similarities it is different to me. I liked that it got right into it from page 1 and kept going.

I just finished The Necromancer last night. It's the perfect example of mood reading for me. I started to read it a couple of years ago but it wasn't clicking so I set it aside after only two chapters. I likely never would have picked it up again if it weren't for the DC/Marvel challenge and, what do you know? I adored it! It's funny (sarcasm, yay!), it tugged at my heart strings a few times, it made me mad a time or two. It's a strange book and I can see where it would not be to everyone's taste's but it's just the sort of thing I would love to see the BBC adapt for tv.

I recently finished Uprooted which I loved, Magic Shifts, which was another good addition to the series despite the slow start for me.

I'm now reading Scarlet which is an okay read so far.

Finished Lagoon. Was intrigued by alien contact in a part of the world I know nothing about, Nigeria. Felt the sci-fi part didn't pan out, but I enjoyed the bits of Nigerian culture as people reacted to the events.

I just have to say a big thank you to my Secret Santa for sending me the Six of Crows for Xmas. I've just finished reading the book and it was brilliant. If you'r a fan of Scott Lynch or Chris Wooding's Tales of the Ketty Jay books then you need to add this to your reading list.

I thought the same thing, Dawn! Six of Crows had a big Ketty Jay vibe, while still being its own unique thing.

Lies of Locke Lamora has been on my to-read list for a while. Comparing it to those two is a nice selling point!

I just finished All the Birds in the Sky - scifi/fantasy mashup that started strong then ended kinda meh. I enjoyed the writing though.
