@Tara I will be starting it soon. It's almost the 2nd for me. Others have already started because it's the 2nd in some places.

Overall though the story is really compelling and I have found it hard to put down, unfortunately I got tired and went to bed.

So kinda behind. Just started....but at Chapter 7 (view spoiler)
I have heard it's a sad book so I have a feeling I will be crying.
I enjoy the short chapters.

Sweet! We are looking to get a new car soon too. Have fun and I hope you find one that you love!

"I shut the bathroom door and caught sight of my face in the mirror. I had no idea how quickly it was to change, to fade. If I had, I would have stared at my reflection, memorizing it. I..."
I just started this and I agree with you Mei. I am really liking it right now.

I think it's an understandable thought. My country was being occupied by the Dutch for 350 years and when Japan came before we declared our independence from the Dutch, we thought that they will help us but in a way they treated us worse than the Dutch.
I also feel the same way, I didn't know much about Soviet annexation of Baltic countries, so this book quite opening my eyes and my mind.

You'll get the answer later and I personally liked the way the author divided it into 3 part in its title.

@Mei re: your Chapter 7 spoiler--That was my favorite line in the book so far. So simple and so haunting!
Don't worry I'm only on chapter 24!
But I'm hoping to read more when I'm done with "Mind Games."

Japanese occupation was really harsh around the same time too. Thanks for sharing that perspective too. So many times the German occupation is shared in history classes, but there were other occupations that were also very cruel.

Agree, it seems German occupation take more headlines than Soviet with Baltic countries, well...at least that I thought before since I didn't know much about Soviet Union.

Yeah, it is sad isn't it. I was not surprised, but I think I still held out a tiny bit of hope.

That exactly what I felt. I think from the moment (view spoiler)

I love the writing style. It's quick and easy to follow along.
I love the map in the beginning of the book. It's great looking at the map and being able to see their travel path.

I agree this book is dark and sad. I have a feeling I might need some tissues later on in the book.

I agree, this book is so dark and sad but surprisingly I didn't cry the whole time I read it. I did almost cried when I read the author's note, though :D

I shrugged. "You will," I said.
I love how Lina is determined and full of hope! (hide spoiler)]
