Liam || Books 'n Beards (madbird) So I'm gonna try to read everything on this flowchart here. (Circled means I own it or am working through the series, crossed means done)

This won't be happening for a while yet cos I still have some stuff on my desk I need to work through but if I put it up here then I have no choice but to follow through on it eventually. :P

I've read quite a few of them already, but most of them need to be re-read anyway so that's no drama. What is a drama is the amount of Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman, two authors I cannot stand.

Oh well.

Status: 10/100 Read

★★★★★
Perdido Street Station (New Crobuzon, #1) by China Miéville Watership Down by Richard Adams Flowers for Algernon by Daniel Keyes

★★★★
Red Mars (Mars Trilogy, #1) by Kim Stanley Robinson Nineteen Eighty-Four by George Orwell The Ultimate Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy #1-5 + short story) by Douglas Adams The Forever War (The Forever War, #1) by Joe Haldeman

★★★
Stardust Being a Romance within the Realms of Faerie by Neil Gaiman Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury

★★
The Fellowship of the Ring (The Lord of the Rings, #1) by J.R.R. Tolkien

Michael (knowledgelost) That link didn't work, I found it here. Or you can just look at the list without the flowchart on NPR's site.

Good luck with the challenge, I've read 25 of the books so I'll be interested to see what you think of some of them.

Liam || Books 'n Beards (madbird) The flowchart is so neat though! :P

That IS the link I copied, apparently it changed between hitting CTRL+C and CTRL+V

message 4: by Michael (new)

Michael (knowledgelost) No it's the link that changed, from a small link to that really long one.

Good luck Liam!

Liam || Books 'n Beards (madbird) Ah goddamnit I'm gonna have to read Lord of the Rings I just realised.

Where's my valium.

★ Jess | 3071 comments Thats a solid list (& I'm a fan of the flowchart). Enjoy!

message 8: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (shelld79) | 144 comments I feel for you. I read Lod of the Rings in high school and think I'd rather have my fingernails plucked out one by one than read it again :-)
I couldn't even make it though the first movie. And I tried to watch it three times!!
Good luck with the list!

message 9: by Liam || Books 'n Beards (last edited Jun 03, 2014 09:36AM) (new)

Liam || Books 'n Beards (madbird) Okay well I didn't expect a Neil Gaiman to be my first considering my original post for this topic, but the opportunity arose in the Winter 2014 challenge to readalong with Brenda.

Stardust has most assuredly not convinced me to read more Neil Gaiman, and I 'look forward' to his other NPR Top 100's with major dubious...ness.

Stardust (Graphic novel) by Neil Gaiman Three ★s, review here.

Liam || Books 'n Beards (madbird) So I just remembered that I read The Fellowship of the Ring at the end of 2012, and I sure as hell don't want to have to re-read it for this. I'll pick up from the Two Towers when I get around to it, but for now..

The Fellowship of the Ring (The Lord of the Rings, #1) by J.R.R. Tolkien Two ★s, review here.

message 11: by Liam || Books 'n Beards (last edited Aug 07, 2014 12:35AM) (new)

Liam || Books 'n Beards (madbird) Another couple I've read semi-recently but didn't have reviews of.

Red Mars (Mars Trilogy, #1) by Kim Stanley Robinson Four ★s, review here.

Nineteen Eighty-Four (Popular Penguins) by George Orwell Four ★s, review here.

message 13: by ★ Jess (new)

★ Jess | 3071 comments How are you tracking Liam?

Liam || Books 'n Beards (madbird) Not making a concerted effort yet, just reading them when I come across an excuse to. Gonna have to knuckle down soon though :P

message 16: by Liam || Books 'n Beards (last edited Feb 06, 2015 05:25AM) (new)

Liam || Books 'n Beards (madbird) Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury Three ★s, review here.

I am not looking forward to reading some of these classics.

Adriana (geoexplorer) | 90 comments Man, I loved that chart!!!

Liam || Books 'n Beards (madbird) Yeah I keep meaning to get it printed out full-size on A2 or something just to have on my wall :P

That would be nice! Eventually I'll try to mark by books on it! :)

MaryG2E (goodreadscommaryg2e) | 934 comments Thanks for posting the flowchart Liam. I've enjoyed perusing it and mentally crossing off those that I've already read. Have added 4 new titles to my TBR. I'm a fan of classic Sci Fi, a la Asimov, Clarke etc. Like you, I've given 4 stars to Red Mars by Kim Stanley Robinson, which was a fascinating read, many years ago, love the notion of 'terraforming'.

Liam || Books 'n Beards (madbird) I think I'll re-read Red Mars, I never got around to reading the whole trilogy.

I read that ages ago - it was a series that grew on me. One day I'll have to re-read and see what I think now.

Liam || Books 'n Beards (madbird) Watership Down by Richard Adams Five ★s, finished for Autumn Challenge, review here.

This made me really wanna watch the movie again.

message 24: by Anabelee (new)

Anabelee | 19 comments I like that flowchart, going to check which of them have read :) Thank you, Liam.

Liam || Books 'n Beards (madbird) Flowers for Algernon by Daniel Keyes Five ★s, finished for SFF Book Club, review here.

FrenzieMcKenzie | 50 comments Liam wrote: "Flowers for Algernon by Daniel Keyes Five ★s, finished for SFF Book Club, review here."

Nice review Liam, lol.
I was thinking recently Flowers for Algernon would make a good movie.

Liam || Books 'n Beards (madbird) There was a film back in the 60's, Charly. I haven't seen it so I can't say how faithful an adaption it is, but it's meant to be great.

Liam || Books 'n Beards (madbird) Mistborn: The Final Empire finished, 4 ★s. Review here.

Since the poster says "Mistborn trilogy" I won't cross it off until I finish the other two, though.

Liam || Books 'n Beards (madbird) Rendezvous with Rama done, 4 ★s.

Also it's been a while >.>
