Elzette | 10 comments Its about a girl who gets sold off to marry a rich old lord to support her family and give him a heir.

Upon her wedding night his bastard son returns and the torture begins of him drugging his father every night and raping his fathers new bride to get her pregnant

He carries and sometimes drags her by her hair through tunnels under the castle to his chamber and she fights him off violently.

She eventually falls pregnant with his son and he falls for her and tries to make amends but she isn't interested and tries to get away from him but he doesn't let her.

He tries his best to seduce her in a softer way but fears the damage is done. The book basically ends there and i suspect there might have been a sequel

JennyG | 608 comments Maybe The Countess by Catherine Coulter? It was originally published in 1979.

Elzette | 10 comments Hi, thanks for the suggestion, had a look and its not it, I think the heroine's name was brianna.
She was innocently married off to an old duke or earl, but his son shows up on the wedding day and drugs the father every night so that he can impregnate the heroine so get revenge on his father.
But he treats her terribly, beats her and rapes her until she fals pregant, and when his son is born, he realises he's fallen in love with her but she isn't interested in a relationship with him after all he's done to her.

JennyG | 608 comments Did you read it on Kindle or as paperback? How old is the book? 70s, 80s, 90s?

Is it a romance novel?

Was the father ever able to consummate his marriage with the heroine? Do you remember anything else that might help in the search?

Elzette | 10 comments Hi,
Was a paperback. I read it 10 years ago. 70's I think. The father did evetually consummate the marriage but he was old and it was horrible for her. It took quile a while for that to happen as the son drugged the old man every night to prevent the old man from impregnating her.
It was a romance, the hero was called Devin or devlin, something along those lines, she used to call him devil.
The old man eventually dies and she inherrits his estates.
The hero says that he will woe her and do what it takes to win her over but he won't reveal that her son is actually his and not her dead husband's.
I remember it being a very harsh book, that he treats her very badly, beats her when she fights him off, I remember that he hides his presence from his father by going through the tunnels under the castle. I remember admiring her as she fought him back and Was very angry and didn't just fall in fall and swoon over her rapist. They came to an uneasy truce as he was the father of her child.
The book starts off with her playing in the forest and then being summoned home to be told she is being married off.
Not much mention of her family after the frst chapter.
Then she is at her wedding reception and she is upset and nervous at being in a strange new place with no say at all. Looking at her new husband with fear and disgust, as he is very old and ugly and she doesn't know anybody there. She was basically just thrown into this situation and then on her first wedding night, the old man passes out on top of her, a secret door opens and next she knows she is dragged through a tunnel and then raped. She is shocked and scared as her assailent doesn't say anything. but when it happens the next night she fights him and he hits her and takes her again. So it carries on. One night she managed to fight him off and he left her alone only to drug her the next night, and she only realised when she woke up sore and bruised. Their fighting carries on but he becomes more genlte when realises he prefers her willing although he still forces her until he falls in love.
The book ends with him, her and their child having a picnic in Scotland or Ireland and he thinking to himself that he hopes he hasn't caused irrevocable damage to her and their relationship. And his last thought was the title of the book, and when I read that the title made sense
I remember the cover had red or maroon in and at the time I didn't think it was a pretty cover, very plain for such a great book.
Hope it helps?

Mermarie | 9 comments Oh man, I was so hoping this was the book? My Dearest Love by Diana Haviland

MY DEAREST LOVE 9/1996 ISBN: 0821754076 Forced to flee antebellum Charleston in the wake of a family scandal, Briana Cameron ventures aboard the clipper ship Osprey - and finds herself the object of desire of two men: handsome, wealthy Cole Forrester, the kind of man she's always dreamed of marrying, and Captain Devlin Rafferty, who is a law unto himself - and whose smoldering gaze makes her feel wild, elated...and afraid. Facing a future alone in San Francisco, Briana allows herself to be swept into a dangerous affair with Rafferty...and loses her heart. Devlin's home is the sea, his true mistress freedom. Yet Briana is branded by the lover she cannot claim or set free - unaware that another man vows to make her his own - any way he can.

Elzette | 10 comments No there wasn't much sea faring, but that actually sounds familiar, think might have read that.

Ill go check that link, thank you.

I think I might have found my book, but I can't find a copy anywhere to confirm whether it is the one I'm looking for.

I just found a post on whatsthatbook very similiar to mine, and somebody responded that the book is called into passions dawn by Michele dubarry.
I've included the link, it looks like the same book I'm looking for, but before I get too excited, I wanted to find a copy to make sure, but I'm not finding one.

Looks very similar?

Mermarie | 9 comments None of those HERO/HEROINES names are what you mentioned before:

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1... (Into Passion's Dawn)
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1... (Across Captive Seas)
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/7... (Toward Love's Horizon)

But by your descriptions, everything else sounds dead-on.

Elzette | 10 comments No they not, whichi is why I'm not sure if it is the one I'm looking for, but her description and mine are very similar, could be I got the names mixed up? With the book you mentioned and the one I'm thinking of?

It's very well likely, if you want my opinion. You may have read that book close to the time you read this one.

Characters in Into Passion's Dawn:
Angela Carlyle
Lord Harrington

Elzette | 10 comments probably exactly what happened, my apologies for wasting time, but I think it is my book.
Can't find an epub anywhere for it though, its not availible in open library either, which sucks, and I can't buy from amazon as its not supported in my country.
Thank you so much all the help! Pls shout if I can help out!

JennyG | 608 comments If you consider this as SOLVED then you should edit your first post in this thread and put SOLVED in it.

Happy for you if Into Passion's Dawn is it! :)

I'm just thankful you got it all straightened out, and want to read the other book we confused it with. =D I know I searched the internet completely for Brianna + Devlin and/or Devon/Devin, and that one was brought up. Also, the romance database for hero/heroine couples. There were two dozen of Devon/Devin/Devlin's, but only one Brianna/Briana counterpart.

Meanwhile, that whole series sounds like a trainwreck, lol. No brakes either. I'll be looking into it in the future myself.
