What is near-professional? (Seriously, I don't get it.)

OK, but I know some cool blogs, I just don't know what counts as professional or not or in b/w... Is it like professional writers, like they get paid for it?

Actually, what I need is someone who posts often, preferably on topics regarding pop culture, and who has lots of comments which need to be nearly moderated.
The AV club's bloggists are similar to what I have in mind.

Ok just caught up on this thread, I'll have to check out Matt's blog!Anyway, my favorite gossip blog has the best blind items and every 6 months he does reveals. This one is amusing:
This A+++ lister from days gone by was an Academy Award nominee/winner? and no one will have any doubts he was an A lister. Anyway, back in the day, this actor was also the man you turned to when LSD was just making its way into Hollywood. Everyone wanted to try it and this actor was about the only person who could supply it. It is said he used it almost everyday from the time he first tried it. That could explain why he didn't work much, if at all after first trying it, despite being in his earning years still. He was once married to a C list actress who has one of the most remarkable true life experiences ever.
Hahaha, it's Cary Grant, and Betsy Drake who survived the sinking of the Andrea Doria, and not only that, but rescued by the Ile de France, which is the boat she sailed when emigrating to America as a child. And when asked about Grant being gay, she replied someting to the effect she didn't know because they were "too busy fucking all the time.

Do you read any good blogs that are updated daily or near-daily that might be appropriate to show my freshman in the fall? I'm looking for something near-professional that might be good for them to study a bit as an "online writing mode".
