"Visual Explanations", Edward Tufte
"Graphic Anatomy", Atelier Bow-Wow
"The Function of Form" and "The Function of Ornament", Farshid Moussavi
anything by Frank Ching but a good cornerstone is his book on architectural detailing
"Have You Kicked a Building Lately?", Ada Louise Huxtable
