At age three. After my grandmother read The Three Little Pigs to me over and over one day, I 'read' it back to her. I was actually reading on my own not long after. ^_^

When my dad was teaching me, I had to read books everyday for practice. My parents wanted me to do well in school.

Mine did too, but they were busy a lot with my little sister. She was very sick during that time. So I learned by myself

Shaun Babinall (immortal-mundane) | 23 comments I started reading when I was in year 6. And loved it ever since!

message 16: by [deleted user] (new)

Loved ever since I could read to myself, hate hate hate reading out loud

message 17: by Basma (new)

Basma (bookishbasma) I read the Magic Tree House as a kid and I loved it. I read Harry Potter in second grade. So while I loved books my whole life, I didn't really get into it until about 4th grade.

Doug Taylor | 23 comments The first book I remember reading by myself (although I was told Mom brought books to the hospital), was "The Giving Tree" by Shel Silverstein. We read, as a family, every day. We went through things like Jurassic Park and The Hunt for Red October when I became 10-13-years-old. I used to spend every day after high school at the library (although I spent more time on the computer than reading). I have always had a relationship with my library. It has to be good or the community is not worth living in. I dread the day we lose paper books.

message 24: by Katie (new)

Katie (katie627) In kindergarten, but all through Middle school, and most of high school spark notes was my best friend. It wasn't until this year that I actually started to enjoy reading. I just got hooked one series after another. :)

message 25: by A (new)

A H I started reading when I was 5 or 6....they were usually big books with short stories and colorful pictures....I read my first novel when I was 8 (famous five).

Maggie the Muskoka Library Mouse (mcurry1990) I was reading a way back when I was in first grade. As I have mentioned before, my mother was a huge reader, and got me started early. :)
