Once Upon A Time and Lara

"Aw, but mr. tree said..." She laughed. He was just too funny when he was angry. "Look, you want to try and be a little less pessimistic? Its like you've got a permanent rain cloud over your head." She scanned the horizon, the sun was just starting to set. She walked towards a small over hang and made a fire appear. Plopping down beside it, she rubbed her hands together and sighed.

"Whatever." He walked up and sat down by the fire."Ok I'm sorry for being rude." This was as best as she will get from him.

"Oh, my, gosh!" Sam exclaimed, "Did anyone else hear that? Was that recorded or something?" She grinned. "For the record, I like you better when you're not mad."

"Can't they get a room?" He asked Sam.

Sam chuckled, "Yeah, no kidding." She produced a pot over the fire, and quickly began stirring things into it. "Ugh, I think I'm going to puke if they don't give it up."

"We agreed on something." They really need a room.

"Wow, you're right!" Sam laughed. She dished out the stew she had made into a bowl, "Want some?"

"Yeah, I'm hungry." He smiled. "This good." He said as he ate some of it,

"Thanks." Sam said, smiling. She dished out another two bowls and handed them to James and Calla before taking some herself.

"Your welcome." He notice Calla was distracted. "Earth to Calla." He was waving his hands in his face. She didn't reply.

Sam looked up from her bowl, "Uhg, not again... Calla? Zoning out now too?" She asked.

"Do you guys think it could be the fire?" He asked worried because her and fire didn't go together.

"Well," Sam added, "Fire's are pretty hypnotizing." She grinned, staring into the flames. "But there isn't really anything we can do about it. If we were somewhere warmer, I would blow it out. But I don't really fancy waking up a human popscicle.... so we are going to have to leave it."

"Well, shouldn't we at least move away from the fire. I don't want to end up like those trees."Danny wasn't mad he was nervous.

James nodded and grabbed Calla under the arms. He picked her up and moved her away from the fire and into the snow. Putting her down again, He stuffed his hands in the snow to help cool them off.

Danny just stared at her. How could she not know what happened? She was just staring at the fire.

Sam sighed, glad that epidemic was over, and lay down on her cloak, leaving James and Calla to their quiet conversation. She sighed a bit, thinking about the journey still to come.

Danny sat there quietly listening to everything that was being said or going on around him. He was worried if the hunters would find them they would get killed, but the witches wouldn't let that happen right?

James thought 'yeah, because they cant control them, that's why' silently in his head. "Sounds good." He said lying back, "We'll figure it out."

"That could work." He was trying to be helpful.

"Yeah," James added, "That sounds like a good plan."

"So by the someone who you want to go with you mean James." He knew she wanted him to come long with her.

Sam nodded, "I'll watch. What do I do, just sit there? Or should I wake you up at some point? What do I do?"

"James be careful." He didn't like him going off with a witch.

"Got it." Sam added, "Good luck."

"Are they ok?" He turned and ask Sam.

James looked around in surprise. He was not on the mountains any longer. In fact, he had no idea where he was. However, Calla was still holding his hand.

"Sam she doesn't look ok." Pointing to Calla.

Sam shook her head, "Remember, she said no matter what happens, we can't wake her." She sighed, "Some memories are so sad or scary that they make people look like that." She said, staring down at Calla's petrified face.

"Something bad is going on in there." Callas face was so pale. She was shaking.

"Yes. You're probably right." Sam said, "But it can't hurt them. They will wake up eventually on their own."

He heard her yelling that was not good. He looked up at Sam. "I don't think I want to know what is happening in there.

"I can't this time." James said, "This already happened, and it is not something we can control." He sighed, "Just watch. You wanted to know your past..."

"What is wrong?" He was curious.

"No idea." Sam said honestly. "To tell you the truth, I'm getting kinda bored of just watching them sleep..." She sighed, "Wonder when it'll be over."

Danny saw that they awakened. Calla looked horrible."Should we ask what happen?" He whispered to Sam.

Sam shook her head, "I don't know if I want to know what happened." She whispered back. Slowly backing away from them, she went back to the fire and lay down on her cloak again.

"So um guys what did you find out?" He really didn't want to know, but he wouldn't want them to get mad at him.

Sam looked over at the fire, her eyes growing heavy. It was late at night now, and she needed rest. Just five minutes. She promised herself, letting her eyes close.

"Whatever." He found a nice little spot and laid down.

Danny told himself to stay awake. He closed his eyes and drifted off into a nice sleep.

James woke up and stared. He thought these creatures were of legend! They were all just standing there, pawing the ground with their fore hooves, bows drawn tight. "Um guys..." James said, waking Calla and Danny.

Danny opened his eyes. He stared up in awe. "I'm dreaming right?" Trying to get approval from his friends.

One of the bigger males stepped forwards, "You are in our territory."
James smiled nervously, "Oh, um, sorry. We didn't realize, we shall go in peace."
A smaller foal-kid stepped forwards, just a young boy, "You may not come to our home!" He said defiantly, "If hunters know we live, we will be captured!."
A she-centaur pushed the boy back, "No one may see us and live."
"Not very Hospitable are you?" Sam asked, her eyes beginning to glow, ready to telleport, just in case they needed a quick escape.
The head centaur's eyes widened, "She is a starlighter!" He announced.
There was a collective gasp in the group.
Sam hoped that it would e a good thing, and they wouldn't kill her on the spot.
The head centaur lowered his bow, "You may go free, but the others must die."
"No! Sam shook her head, "They are my friends..." She looked to the others, "Right guys?"
"Yup. Absolutely." James said nervously.

"I thought." Oh she is good. Playing with them.

The head centaur tipped his head, thinking, "A queen witch, and a starlighter, and their friends."
He thought for a moment longer, "Where are you going?"
Sam smiled, "Flahendiel."
The centaur brightened up instantly, "In that case, you may pass. We can transport you up to the gate. but you must swear not to speak of us to anyone."
"On my life." She agreed.
The centaur smiled and put out a hand, Sam took it and he pulled her onto his back. She wrapped her arms around his waist to stay on as he began to move. Other centaurs held out their hands to her friends. James took the hand of a female centaur and was surprised by her strength as she pulled him up. He wrapped his arms around her waist as well to help hold on as she began trotting after the centaur Sam was on.
"Never call me that again." He said bitterly.
