I couldn't agree more - I think Clary and Simon were too familiar with one another for a long term relationship to work out. Therefore, I feel like Clary and Jace were the best suited for one another. I don't think Simon every really found his true other half, though. I think both Isabelle and Maia were a bit out of his league, both before and after he was transformed into a vampire.
I recently went to a Q&A/booksigning with Cassandra Clare where she admitted that she had initially planned on dragging out Clary and Simon's romance, never foreseeing that Simon would end up falling in love with Isabelle. I kinda prefer Clary and Simon's romance to be fairly nonexistent; I think it would have made the books drag a bit, incorporating unnecessary plot events. Therefore, I'm really glad that she developed the relationship between Clary and Jace instead of between Clary and Simon.

I agree, I'm not a fan of how the love triangle is set up. After reading the first book, I didn't even realize that a love triangle existed... I could also blame that on exhaustion though, because I'm pretty sure I finished the book at some ridiculous hour in the morning.

That's understandable. Yeah, I'm kinda bummed, but I feel that I just need to read the second book (which is waiting for me on my kindle) and decide if I'll continue the series or not. Although I definitely plan on reading the Infernal Devices series whether I like TMI or not.
I would definitely read the Infernal Devices series! I enjoyed the series more than the Mortal Instruments. The plot and characters are completely different in the two series, so you may end up liking the Infernal Devices.
And I hate deciding whether or not I should read the next book in a series to give it one last chance and see if it gets better, or if I should just give up and move on. But then I'm always wondering how the series ends...

I know- it's always the hardest decision! Lately I've been a bit pickier because many times the series doesn't get significantly better, so I just stop. But it's so hard to choose :(
Just as a heads up, I just finished City of Heavenly Fire, the last book in the Mortal Instruments series, and the epilogue had so many connections to the Infernal Devices. If you decide to keep reading, you may want to read her books in the order that they were published, instead of trying to finish all of the Mortal Instruments books before you read the Infernal Devices. This was how I read the books, and the plots were fairly easy to keep straight because they were so different.
