Not really... I saw you give some 5 stars rating to some pretty average romance books. I think we all have a category we like to judge a little less harsher than others because it just apeals to us. For me, it's tragedy, for Sara, it's fluffy conemporary romance XD.

And those who have a thing for SF will probably let some things slide for this book and give it a high rating, regardless. :)

Mine too. :( I gave out quite a few 4 stars at the end of the year, and two 5 stars. It went up to 2.78, but then dropped again.

To be honest, I don't think they changed at all. She became less whiny and he became more relaxed with her, but that's only natural giving the situation.

Finished this one and I can say only one thing: bad Ender's Game rip-off. (view spoiler)[Even the "alien salvation" at the end was not because of Lilac. All she cared to save was Tarver. Then the aliens just kinda saved themselves at the end. What I disliked enormously in this book it's that it's the type of book that takes tragedy way to lightly. Lilac dies, don't worry, she's revived a few pages later; they lost everything, no problem, the aliens will supply with food and stuff; she didn't care to save the aliens, but they burned away and flew god knows where, to a happy place we must presume because fire is not a hurting material, fire purifies, right? Everybody in hell must agree :) . (hide spoiler)]
So, I don't want to judge this book way too harshly, but most of it was just plain silly. And at the end of the day, what was the point of it all? Was it boring? Yes. Did it teach me something? No.
No enjoyment + no character/story depth = 2 stars (1 for trying + 1 for being a decent literature book, in terms of grammar and stuff)

Finished this last night. I didn't really enjoy it. Sorry! I know that I tend to be a minority lady but seriously!? This sounded sooo good and I was expecting to love it. It just dragged to much - the journey scenes were dull - and I didn't enjoy the characters at all. The ending just ruined it for me. Absolutely ruined it.

(view spoiler)[If you kill a character off, keep them dead. It isn't really that hard. It doesn't work bringing them back - at all. It makes every situation seem fixable and then there isn't anything shocking or intense or interesting about the plot. Lilac's death was really sad but pls how hard is it just keep her dead??

Plus, the alien thing didn't work for me. It just didn't seem to fit into the story well at all. (hide spoiler)]

Overall, I was pretty disappointed with this. I know a lot of you guys loved it, but this just wasn't for me.

I agree with you @Rachel. They were just belittling a tragedy and that did not sit well with me. Even I had high hopes going into the book, but it was just disappointing. I think had they not introduced that twist, this book could have been so much better.

@Aarati I am glad that someone agrees with me! That twist is what completely ruined it for me. I wasn't disliking it too much. I was thinking 3.5 stars until that twist. It just didn't work for me. That cannot just belittle a tragedy - like you said - like that. Its just wrong! :(

(view spoiler)[I don't mind it if it turns out that dead person was never dead to begin with. That's fine. They weren't dead. What I hate is when authors kill off a main character and then bring them back to life. It just makes all the siutatiosn seem cheap and fixed and I don't know. It sjuts really doesn't work for me. Character who are dead should stay dead - weird aliens or no weird aliens. If it turns out a character isn't really dead then that's okay because they were dead and revived. Its like Inkdeath - like three main characters die and then are bought back to life. I just really don't like it when that happens. (hide spoiler)]

(view spoiler)[I did not want Lilac to be dead either. Traver's reaction to her death was quite a powerful scene. But what I did not like was the fact that the authours killed her in one chapter and brought her back in the next. I think they shouldn't have done that. They ruined it before Traver's reactions could completely sink in. If they had given it a while and then resurrected her in a more significant manner, I could have appreciated it. But like I said earlier, they just belittled her death. Tragedy can be quiet as powerful as anything else, and they should have gone with it. (hide spoiler)]
