I'm challenging myself to read several different books at work and at home, simultaneously.
Thanks for linking to this! I've planned to read 18 SFF books by female authors this year, so this is perfect. I'm also doing the same challenge. For me the difficulty is different than yours. I've always strongly preferred women sci-fi writers (I blame some heavily negative views of women in male writers in my teen years - it might have been Heinlein, but I've actually forgotten.) So for me the challenge is finding completely-new-to-me authors. I'm enjoying the adventure!
Yes, I was going to suggest a few authors to you, but I see they're already among those in your Read shelf. Of the 18, a couple are authors I've read before, but I'm pretty sure at least 12 are new-to-me. Looking forward to reading some of your reviews. :)
Actually, once I started looking with that particular goal in mind, I began to find tons and tons of possibilities. I'm feeling really excited to see what the year brings me!

You've got an excellent list of books there! I'm less of a planner, I've got sort of a cloud of possibles and I'll wait and see what the year brings me.

Thanks for posting this - going to try the WWE Women's Challenge. Shouldn't be too difficult for me to find completely-new-to-me authors as I haven't read that many books by female authors (of any genre for that matter).
The more I look the bigger my list of potential reads gets! And I'm talking really appealing books, not just "maybe's." At this rate I could probably do this challenge five years running. But then I'll probably also want to do the one about focusing in more on a favorite author, because with great books it's impossible not to want to go back and read everything by that author.
I've challenged myself to read as many SF books as I can this year with my picks based on quality of content, awards recognition, and positive reader reviews. Author gender was and is not considered.

Maggie, I've got a good one on my TR list. U. LeGuin's Left Hand of Darkness. I read it in college...been wanting to read it again. Only female SF author I really like...but read 30+ years ago :/ Feel free to recommend another :]

I've gone for the SF Masterworks Challenge.
I've signed up for the Women Writers Challenge for something different. Will also read male authors of course but don't want to take on too many more challenges right now.
Being challenged to read 12 completely-new-to-me female authors has been wonderful! But now I still have to get two more in before the end of the month - and this is a busy month!
My plan is to do Ammonite and then Hammered. I'm looking forward to both of them. (And then of course I still have to write the reviews....)
Done! Twelve women I had never read before this year - quite an adventure, I recommend it highly!

Next year I want to do a "next-in-series" challenge for myself.....I have way too many books I want to read the next one on!
Hmmm, intriguing! But I always feel the need to go back and re-read the first - maybe I need to do some full (already completed) series.
This year I'm combining two challenges, again doing 12 women authors I've never read before, and then also doing the "I just have to read more of that author." So this way I get to count both the new authors and the already-known authors. Feeling quite pleased with my cleverness!

This year, it's called 'Roll Your Own' and is about creating your own challenge.
There are a bunch of premade challenges you can pick (I picked awards, where you read 12 books that have been awarded different awards) or you can make up your own.
