Hello lovely group!

I brought this topic up with a few of the other mods a while ago, but then forgot to actually post anything about it, so I'm randomly doing it now.

Basically, we've been thinking about changing the group name. The name Writers Who Are Children was originally given to the group by the person who created it (who left the group a long time ago, I believe) and the name just kind of stuck. But it doesn't make a lot of sense considering most people in the group are teenagers (*cough* or older, ah haha) and not children––so right now the group name is kind of confusing/misleading.

Sooo I'm proposing we change the name to something along the lines of "Young Writers" (or something similar) to better clarify that, while most members of the group are young people, it's not really a group for "children."

If we do change the name, of course I'd add a note to the group description explaining that the group used to be WWAC (to avoid confusion). Also someone would have to change our little group icon thingie––which I'd also be happy to do, unless someone else has a burning desire to do so.

So! In conclusion, does anyone have thoughts on the name change and/or other suggestions for names? Thanks!

<3 Brigid

I don't mind if we change the name; I agree that the title is a bit misleading and it's kind of awkward if someone younger joins, thinking it's for kids, and then it's like a ton of 15-20 year olds talking about whatever it is we talk about. (Not that I mind having younger people in this group, I love you all!)

I'm pretty sentimental about the name because of stupid reasons (basically me not wanting to let go of anything ever) but I can suck it up. XD

Young Writers sounds fine to me! Unless someone thinks of something better.

... This just made me feel really old. I definitely remember when I was that lill' chillun with all these aspirations to be a great and fantastic writer by using bad grammar, punctuation, and cliches.

Well. I'm glad those days are over.

Anyway! I like the idea of a name change for all the aforementioned reasons: this is no longer a group for children, really, and Young Writers would be a good replacement... Or even just "Writers" if you were interested in getting a different "group". I'm sure there are more writers on Goodreads than adolescence? BUT I do like Young Writers and all of that so. Either way.

Tempest S.J. | 120 comments Umm this is really awkward... I am small so I mean it's fine if you change the name but if you do can I still be in this group?

message 5: by Elliott (new)

Elliott | 22634 comments Mod
Oh, yeah, for sure! I don't think this is about making the group for older people or, like, asking younger people to leave. We definitely still want younger people to be a part of the group if they want to be a part of it! I think people are just worried that people are not expecting there to be so many teenagers/young adults in the group when they join and we want to make sure that's not a problem, that's all.

Tempest S.J. | 120 comments Okay! Thanks for that, I saw this discussion and thought, Oops, something is happening. Is it about age? I hope it's not about age, darn, it's about age. Better check in.

Well, I'm glad you're in this group and definitely don't want you to leave anytime soon. Nothing to worry about. :)

Seconding what Alicia said––of course you can stay! I'm not saying children can't be in the group; I just want to change the group title to better encompass all of its members. ;)

Colby (colbz) | 3211 comments Haha yes, I am kind of happy with the name change. I've been realizing lately that I'm turning 20 this year and I'm in a group named Writers Who Are Children, which seems kind of ridiculous, but now I can hold onto my childhood without feeling weird about it. XD

message 11: by Isaac (new)

Isaac | 8014 comments I support this 192048023985%. I always felt our name was rather awkward and inapplicable considering that a majority of us seem to be older than 12. Besides, it seems to expand that tiny age gape to a bigger catch-all one. ^*^

Sevania (sevthedev) | 2512 comments Oorrrr we could change the name slightly so we don't have to have a new acronym. Such as, "Writers who are crazy"?

(I'm just kidding. Young Writers sounds perfect.)

I'm going to be sort of annoying and responsible and say that while that is hilarious and clever, it's not... really much of a change? In my opinion? So. I'm not really sure, obviously if I'm outvoted I'll be chill. (This may all be joking around and I'm just an idiot, if so please ignore me.)

message 19: by Colby (new)

Colby (colbz) | 3211 comments Guys I was kidding about WWAChildish. It's funny, but think about if we actually made that the title of the group. Think about the types of people who would join. Not saying that we are exclusive or anything, but I feel like if we actually changed the title to that...we might be just opening ourselves up for a world of annoyance? Like yeah, we can all be childish, but people who classify themselves as childish, like as a descriptor for their overall personality...do you see what I'm saying? And I'm trying to say all of this in the most accepting way possible, but yeah.

Now, Writers Who Have Butts...that's a title, my friends.

seriously though young writers is probably a good option here friends let's stick with something along those lines

Dana (danachewy) | 735 comments But but but Young Writers just doesn't have the ring to it that Writers Who Are Children has. XD

Agreed. I think that, as writers, we need a group title that will be a little less generic.

Yeahhhh I veto Writers Who Are Childish ... The goal is basically to take "child" out of the name. :P Plus it sounds kind of insulting, IMO.

I know Young Writers isn't the most catchy title, though, and I'm trying to come up with something better. And I think whatever we change the name to, it should probably still convey that it is a group for young people who write. ;) We could call it Young People Who Write.

I think this one matches the group the best, but might not be best when you want to get more people to join. XD

Young Writers is classy, but sorta short.

By the way, I love Colby's! LOL

How about, Writers Who Are Clever, if you want to keep the same acronym.

Colby (colbz) | 3211 comments I mean, it really doesn't matter to me what we make the title. It's the group, not the title, that matters. :D

So far, I like Young Writers best. It's simple and sounds less awkward than the former name. Unless someone more creative than me can come up with something a bit more catchy or whatever, I'd be happy with that title.
