So I am not really loving this book I find the main character rude and thinks too high of himself. I definitely think of Sheldon off The Big Bang Theory. I was so glad when they introduced Rosie her carefree attitude is what this uptight guy needs

I am absolutely loving this book so far. It reminds me so much of an adult version of "The Curious Case of the Dog in the Night." I really like Rosie's character. I feel like she is a very normal person. I am also really enjoying their relationship.

Initially I think I felt that Rosie was a little immature, but then I think I realised that really she is similar to most people, but her immaturity is a little more on display, probably for the purposes of the book!

He seems very self aware to me, but I am giving this character the benefit of the doubt and continuing the book. He does seem to have his moments like with the neighbour and celebrating birthdays though
Don seems to lack the empathy required to be polite. He is aware of himself, but not of the emotions of others; he feels justified in his direct approach and tells the truth, unlike most people, who tell white lies or don't fully express themselves to avoid hurting others' feelings.I don't find him rude nor mean, because his intentions are always pure. He doesn't mean to hurt anyone's feelings, and he cannot empathize with those whose feelings he hurts because he would not be offended by the same type of comments if they were directed at him.
I think it's so interesting to have the main character be someone with undiagnosed Asperger's. Don's lack of self-awareness is truly breathtaking. I haven't laughed much (I find Don a little more heartbreaking than funny), but the book has certainly been an enjoyable read.
Very different characters, but of particular interest - if you enjoy the extreme perspective - is "The Curious Incident of The Dog in the Nighttime." At least I think that's the title, but it's written in the perspective of a young boy with autism, if memory serves.Just remembered, I could post the book cover:
The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time
I've finished the first 12 chapters today and I do find Don a lot like Sheldon but where I laugh at Sheldon's lack of social skills! I don't find Don as funny. He almost bothers me because of how inflexible he is! But as I read I do enjoy that he is getting a little more out of his comfort zone because of Rosie! I'm excited to see what else is going to happen!!
Seriously, Chapter 1: how romantic : (view spoiler)I can tell I am really going to love this book :)

Glad you have got hooked early on! I loved how analytical the book was. Probably because I am quite analytical myself

If you loved that, you're going to be rolling on the floor in later chapters! I've been trying to explain this book to my husband, and describing some of the comments that get dropped in an off-handed way, as though everyone would say such things, and he's just not getting it.
I've tried explaining the humor and charm of this book to my friends without success....I just get stared at.....I think they're so offended by the questionnaire they shut down.
You guys are right, the lobster move had me in stitches...seriously who does that? I agree that you can't really explain this book. The best thing to do is to recommend it I guess :)
OMG, Sheldon, yes!Doesn't it make you wonder at all the anomalies in the English language and nuances in social interaction that we take for granted?
Marvellously, funny character, that I warmed to from the start.
Martha wrote: "Just finished the first twelve chapters, hope Rosie finds her father and doesn't give up. We will see how the Wife Project goes."Are you enjoying it so far Martha?
Two days to finish this lovely book as I want to keep up and start the March read on time. Oh I DO like to savour these things ..........or am I just a procrastinator?

I was sad when I finished RP...still am:).
Virginia, if I don't start the next one on time.......disaster. This is one reason I'm here. So I flippin' GET ON WITH IT!After all, one book a month is achievable, even for me, ha!
Encourage me darling, kick me up the proverbial.........
Oops, BTW, I HAVE finished 'Rosie'...........Felt the ending was a little 'garbled'. As if it needed to be wrapped up quickly. A lot happened in the final chapters.
But a joy to read, all the same.

Omg, and I had a whole motivating speech prepared!! Well done for finishing on time...What's your next read?
Divergent from Veronica Roth, it's not a group read, but I really, really, really want to read it before the movie is out in a couple of weeks.I have to finish The Ocean at the End of the Lane tonight and have 30% to go...
Now who needs the encouraging :)

Glad you are enjoying it! I hope you continue to like it. I agree that Don becomes more distinct from Sheldon as you read on. I think just the fact that he is searching for a partner makes him seem completely different once you get past the first few chapters
