Elaine, I have read Gone I thought it was pretty good and I got through it rather quick. Young kids running a muck with no adults. It has a sci-fi edge to it. Have not got around to reading any more of the series though.

Thanks Ashleigh. It sounds pretty good, just not sure if it qualifies for this challenge. My first choice is Wool but I'm not sure if I'll get it in time.

Well it seems to be working pretty well for you Marianne. Good for you.

Liam || Books 'n Beards (madbird) I can vouch that Wool is fantastic. Whoever it was who put me onto it, thanks. Dale maybe?

I'm not sure this one would qualify Tanvi? It's science fiction/dystopian isn't it?

Anyone else thoughts on this one?

Brenda I've checked some reviews and one person said a blend of Indigenous Dreamtime and a post apocalyptic world in which man destroyed our environment

I was thinking about reading this one too.

I checked the genre shelves and no-one had shelved it under apocalyptic, that's why I asked...but I'm fine with it if others think it is:)

Go for it Tanvi and Mish:) (and thanks Mish)

Liam || Books 'n Beards (madbird) First sentence of the description; "The Reckoning destroyed civilisation."

I'd say that qualifies :P

Belinda I'm going to read What Remains

I've no idea what it's going to be like. I stumbled across it in my search to find an Australian post-apocalyptic writer so I could count in towards my Aussie author challenge.

Sounds ... different Belinda! But it has some great reviews and you've done well finding one which covers both challenges. I hope you enjoy it, and I'll be interested in your thoughts when you're done:)

message 75: by Sandra (new)

Sandra | 1176 comments AR Apocalyptic February 2014 Challenge

Taken from the Apocalyptic Book Links

Something from the Nightside 1/2/14 ★★★★

Something from the Nightside (Nightside, #1) by Simon R. Green

The Nightside, part of a realm under/beside London seems to be in another dimension ~ it's always 3am in the morning. Some things only like the dark.

This is a seriously bad place for those not aware and not prepared. John Taylor was born in the Nightside. Many creatures fear him coming back.

There were lots of subtle culture references, and also lots of stereotypes, but I've gotta say, I loved the 60's Coke and the casual mention of the 5 Tracy brothers and comments like "the plaque rats go around in pairs cause they're frightened."

Lots of strange people in the Nightside, doing lots of strange things. Probably strangest of all is the Timeslip, where John finds out he causes the end of human civilisation if he goes looking for his mother.

It really reminds me of Kolchak: The Night Stalker TV show, from way back. The action is very TV episode-like as well, like it'd fit between ad breaks.

I'm looking forward to reading the next one in the series, but I don't feel a great need to read it now, next month will be fine.

Once I started, I couldn't seem to stop plus it seemed short at only 230 pgs :)

Ashleigh (ashleighbailey) | 221 comments I was a naughty and started Wool Omnibus (Silo, #1) on the 31st. Stayed up last night reading because I just need to know what happens! 240 pages to go. I may have to rethink what I want to read this month . . . . Silo series.

I started mine this morning Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins

message 84: by Sally906 (new)

Sally906 | 86 comments Ok. I have finished Red Queen by Honey Brown.

Still mulling over what I have read. Has got 4 stars right now but this could change when I write my review.

message 85: by Belinda (new)

Belinda More than half way through What Remains. Very easy to read. A bit Young Adult for me but okay. Hopefully there's a big twist to come - seems to be plodding along too easily at the moment.

If I finish this one quickly, I'd really like to re-read Z for Zachariah. I had to read it in high school and I hear it's about to be made into a movie so it would be good to revise it.

message 89: by Belinda (new)

Belinda 3 days in, well I actually finished it last night so 2 days in and challenge complete! I stayed up and finished What Remains last night and I really enjoyed it! It did get more exciting and thrilling and un-put-downable, if such a word! Nicole R. Taylor is classed as Urban Fantasy so I'm hoping I can class this as my Fantasy novel in the Aussie Author Challenge if possible???

message 90: by Belinda (new)

Belinda Well, I couldn't get a copy of Z for Zachariah from my library, nor is it sold on Kindle, so Plan B, I found a copy of The Road on my bookshelf that I must have picked up on a bargain table some time ago so I'll read that instead.
