What's the deal about politics being a downside? Heinlein and other classic Sci Fi authors used the politics of their day to create conflict (Space Cadet) and even Star Trek used failed Earth political movements to be the central points of many shows. Politics is reality, and since 90% of people on this planet still live under authoritarian regimes that lends reality to this series. Why not use it to show what could be; after all, isn't that what Sci Fi is all about?
