New To Kntting

Hi All - I've only been knitting for about 9 months. Can anyone suggest a book to someone who is new to knitting that will cover the basic techniques, but also give me projects to practice on at the end of each new learned technique?

Hi Julia, when I learned to knit, an old friend of mine & expert knitter suggested Vogue Knitting. It's a great reference book that will answer almost any question you have. It has a couple of patterns in the back based on experience. The real treat is in the middle where the "stitchionary" swatches are - to help you practice various techniques. You can also find stitchionary swatches on their website & they've made a couple of day calendars also.

knittinghelp.com was recommended to me by my knitting teacher & they're invaluable because of their many instructional videos.

You might want to check out Debbie Stoller's Stitch n Bitch series. The instructions are very good and very readable but the question here I guess is whether the projects are to your taste, so check them out first. If the original Stitch n Bitch is too simple for you then Stitch n Bitch Nation and Stitch n Bitch Superstar go on to more advanced stuff.

Anyone read First Knits: Projects for Beginning Knitters? I haven't, but it looks like it might be good.

There's also Fashionable Projects for the New Knitter, which I do have, and has some nice stuff in it.
