SOLVED. Boy kills bird and is then visited by mysterious man when he is grownup. [s]

I saw a book online a while back (6 months ago? not sure)and I'd like to look into it more and decide if I want to read it. The book is fairly recent, I THINK. I remember the plot is about a young boy killing a bird, perhaps with a slingshot, and then when he is an adult, he is visited by a mysterious man because of the wrongdoing he did in killing the bird. Then the main character may have to make up for his past deed by doing something (can't remember what) which involves the mysterious man. Thank you for any help! :)
