A grin spread across Dessa's face as she look to the window, then back up at Liam. "I believe so," she said. It had been a long while since they had been there together. She could definitely go for some piece and quiet before he took her home to spend the rest of her night in just quiet. She got the feeling the Eve household would be silent tonight, at least she hoped it would be.

Liam's grin matched Odessa's and he grabbed her hand pulling her back to the parking lot. It had been too long since they were at the beach. It was their sanctuary and it was being neglected. The drive there was peaceful and filled with excitement for the time in their special place.
Liam lifted his paintbrush to his canvas, making a bright crimson line. He looked up to see Lillian working on something for his next show. He hadnt seen Odessa since her birthday three days ago and he hated that he had to work with her mom and never get to see her. They had still made no progress in getting her mom to condone their relationship and it frustrated him.
Lillian looked up and met Liam's gaze, having felt it on her. "Can I help you?" she asked blandly, hoping he would say no. This job was so not worth what he was paying her. It wasn't even as satisfying to see him sulking day in day out.
Liam shook his head, looking back at his painting, raising his brush again, before looking back at Lillian. "Actually, yeah you can. You can stop trying to keep me and your daughter apart. You've worked with me this whole time and you must be able to realize how much I love Odessa. So why are you so against it?" Liam asked desperately.
Lillian rolled her eyes, stashing her phone away. "We've been over this. The fact that you still can't seem to figure it out doesn't exactly change my mind. Besides, exactly what part of slapping paint on a canvas shows me that you love my daughter?" she demand, unimpressed.
"Have you not seen the focus of all of my paintings lately?" Liam asked, tilting his head. "Have you not noticed how hard I'm fighting to get you to let us be together?" He wanted to know what was so wrong with his and Odessa's relationship. He didn't get her aversion to it.
"Color strategically placed to make an image? I'm pretty sure all of your paintings are like that," Lillian said. In truth hadn't bothered to so much as look in his direction if she could help it. "You may be 'fighting' now, but trust me, it will lose it's appeal eventually," she told him bitterly.
Liam frowned. "Love never loses its appeal. I love your daughter and that she be all you need to let us be together. Can't you see it?" He asked. There was something in her voice that suggested that something had happened to her because of love and he wondered if that was the reason she tried to keep them apart so hard.
"You love her because of a clock. That doesn't mean crap. The longer you're away from her, you're going to want to fight me less and less. Eventually, you're going to wonder why you were trying so hard. You'll give up," Lillian said. It was a proven fact. Sooner or later, he won't see the point.
"I loved her before we even knew our clocks matched." Lain argued. He didn't give a damn about the clocks. Nothin mattered to him except Odessa. "Why are you so against anyone loving someone? What made you not believe in love?" Liam asked, setting his paintbrush down on a paper towel.
"But when you decided that you 'loved' her, before you knew about the clocks, don't tell me it didn't cross your mind. If her clock had run out before yours, you would have left her. You would have given up on your so called love because some numbers told you so," Lillian argued. "I believe in love. I just don't believe in your love."
"The only way out relationship will end is if she wants to end it. She is the only bright spot in my life and I'm not willing to lose it. Yes the fact that our numbers might not have timed out together did cross my mind but it didn't make me love her any less or want to fight for her any less." Liam said, meeting her eyes steadily. "Love is love either way. It's a feeling. There's no way to judge loves worth."
"Cute. And what if your clock had run out before hers? Are you going to tell me that you wouldn't have loved her any less? That you would have fought to be with her because she's the only bright spot in your life?" Lillian needed to hear him say it. He would have done exactly what Aaron had done. He would have left Odessa and Lillian would be left with a broken hearted daughter.
"Of course I would have fought for her. I don't care what a god damn clock says. Fate doesn't always know everything. How could I possibly fall in love with someone else when Odessa had been the one there in the first place?" Liam demanded. He didn't understand what was so wrong with their relationship. It was te same as anyone else's.
Lillian shook her head. "You wouldn't have fought for her," she said, not believing him. He would have pushed Odessa off to the sidelines, but Odessa wouldn't have cared. She would have looked into those stupid brown eyes and-- Lillian stopped her train of thought there. Liam didn't have brown eyes, he had blue eyes. Liam wasn't Aaron.
"I would have." Liam argued. E didn't care what people thought. The only person that he cared about in life had died and then he met Odessa. She's the only one who had made living possible again. How could he not fight for her after that?
Lillian took her phone back out a sign that this conversation was getting tiresome. "We'll never know for sure, will we?" she stated mildly. She wasn't even close to saying that she believed him, but that was the closest he was going to get to her conceding. The only thing she could tell herself was that Odessa wasn't her and Liam wasn't Aaron.
Liam could tell that Lillian was done won the conversation, but he still wanted to know what had happened to her to make her disbelieving in the clock. She had found her true love eventually right? So it couldn't be Odessa's father. "Is there a reason you don't believe in the clocks?" Liam asked carefully.
Lillian's eyes narrowed slightly as she looked down at her phone. "I don't believe I ever said anything about not believing in the clocks," she said, edging around his question. She was in no mood to have a heart to heart with this man. He really didn't know when to stop, did he?
"You said you didn't believe in my and Odessa's love. That has to mean you don't believe in the clocks." Maybe if he knew her story then they could move on from this figurative war they were having. Maybe he could make her see that he wouldn't leave Odessa. There had to be something he could do or learn that would fix things.
"Oh, I know the clocks work. I also know that people believe in them far too much," Lillian retorted, scrolling through recent emails. Now she definitely knew Liam was different. Aaron wasn't this persistent.
Lillian wasn't making any sense. She was avoiding the question and this frustrated Liam. He picked up his paintbrush again and painted a few more stokes when he looked up again. "If we rely on them too much then why are you with your husband? Don't your clocks match?" He asked, knowing that they had to.
Lillian rolled her eyes. "Of course they match," she sneered. Seriously, how slow was this guy? "We didn't need our clocks to know we were in love, unlike some people." Her tone had grown bitter again, and for the first time in this conversation, it wasn't because of Liam.
"I didn't need my clock to know that I was in love with Odessa either, Lillian." Liam said, meeting her eyes across the room. He detected bitterness in her voice and wondered who it was directed at. "If your clock matches your husbands and you love him then what is your aversion to me and Odessa being together? What happened to make you not trust them?"
"Just because a clock stops doesn't mean that everybody's happy, okay? Are you satisfied yet?" Lillian retorted. As much as he was pushing, she wasn't in the mood to make a trip down memory lane, even if it made a point. Wasn't he supposed to be painting or something?
Liam blinked in surprise. She wasn't happy with her husband? "Then why are you with him?" Liam asked softly. Maybe he should stop. Maybe he was just making it more and more unlikely that she would let him and Odessa be together. But he wanted to know. A part of him felt compelled to find out.
She felt like her eyes would never stop rolling around him. "I'm not talking about Jackson," she corrected him. How much did she have to spell out for him until he could put it together? She decided to look back down at her phone, hoping he would just get back to work and they could just continue in silence.
"You were hurt by someone else." He said in understanding. "His clock stopped and he left too even after he said the clocks didn't matter." Liam understood now why she had asked the question about him fighting for Odessa even if his clock had stopped. "Lillian...I'm not him."
Lillian scowled. She couldn't possible be that transparent, could she? "You don't think I've tried to convince myself of that? It had been so much easier when Dessa had decided that she didn't need anyone but herself to make her happy. I'm sure you know how capable she is. If she only had to rely on herself for her own happiness, she would never have to suffer from heartbreak or disappointment. She was more cynical about the clocks than I was for a time. Then you had to walk in and screw everything up."
"Just because she loves me and I love her doesn't mean she can't still be self reliant. I don't run her life. She does. Even if we were just friends, we would be happy spending time together. Love can come in all forms. I'm sorry that happened to you, but you can't try and keep me and Odessa apart because you think I'm going to break her heart, which is something I would never do." Liam tried reasoning with her.
That is yet to be seen, Lillian thought to herself. No matter how much he tried to convince her to let him be with her daughter, it didn't get him very far if she couldn't trust him. "Aren't you supposed to be working?" Lillian pointed out after a long moment. All of this was just words to her.
Liam sighed and picked up his paintbrush again. "This piece is just something to paint until I can get an idea for the theme of the next show." He explained. Usually he had to paint a few canvases before he was able to have one that could actually go in the show. He realized that Lillian was definitely done with the conversation but it didn't bother him. He now knew what he had to do to convince her. He had to fight for Odessa like the guy hadnt for her.
Lillian sat hunched over her phone, frowning at the screen. She spent long minutes in silence until it accumulated in to an hour. Checking the time, she saw that is was three o'clock. After Odessa had gotten home the night of her birthday, Lillian had taken away her keys. The only time she left the house was when she had to go to school, which Lillian took her to. Lips thinned, she looked over at Liam. "If you aren't working on anything of importance, Odessa gets out of school in fifteen minutes," she said, slinging her purse over her shoulder. "Tell her I'm getting groceries."
Liam looked at her in surprise. Did she just....? He wasn't going to push his luck though. Scrambling off his stool, he hurried to put away his supplies and dug his keys out of his pocket, jogging out to his bike. Maybe that conversation had helped smooth things over somewhat. He drove to Odessa's school and waited in the parking lot until the bell rang.
Lillian pinched the bridge of her nose as he went rushing past her. She should have clarified that he was supposed to take her straight home. She wasn't even close to trusting him, but she knew keeping the two of them apart wasn't an easy task. ((Post at the school? Parking lot?))
