Liam pulled open the door and held it open for Odessa. Thirty pairs of eyes turned to look at them. The teacher glanced up but went back to her work when she made a not of who had walked in. He motioned for Dessa to follow him over to his work station.
Odessa couldn't help but be a little bit embarrassed when the entire class was focused on them. She quickly followed Liam, feeling a little guilty for interrupting their class. He was so lucky that his teacher was so laid back. If she had showed up late to class there would be a five minute lecture on tardiness.
Liam pulled open his drawers and took out different sized paintbrushes and pencils. Then he went and picked up his easel. "I started this a few days ago." He said. He didn't take off the sheet that was covering it yet and instead looked into her eyes. "Ready?"
"Yeah," Des replied. She wondered what he had been so eager to show her. Maybe he was just trying to prove that he was in fact talented since she had teased him about it at the cafe. She waited eagerly for him to reveal his work.
Liam slowly removed the sheet. He was apprehensive about showing her. He didn't even know why he had started working on it. One the sheet was removed it revealed a painting of a hand running down the edge of a spiral notebook. The colors were exaggerated and brought the picture into more focus.
((just a heads up, I'll be choppy for the next few hours))Odessa held her breath, wishing he would just take the sheet off already. Once it was removed, her eyes narrowed as she studied the canvas. The skill was obvious, even she could see that, but she couldn't understand why he had painted something like this. It was a simple subject matter, then she noticed a small mark on the first knuckle and a small smile curved her lips when she recognized her familiar scar. "Why did you paint a nervous habit?" she asked curiously.
((Thats fine! I have so many RP's going at the same time that my responses will be slow too XD))Liam looked at the painting and then back at Odessa. He shrugged, "I don't know. My paintbrush sort of had a mind of it's own last night." He said. He couldn't tell if she liked it or not and that made him a little nervous. "What do you think?" He finally asked.
((okay! (: ))Odessa grinned. "I don't know why I doubted you. Its great. you made my hand look very pretty, " she assured him. To be honest, she was kind of flattered, even if he hadn't planned on painting this
Liam laughed. "It wasn't supposed to represent a hand. I think my brain just went to that moment because it was a quirk that you had." He said thoughtfully. In all honesty he didn't really understand why he had painted it. It just sort of happened.
"Well, Im not a very good judge of artwork, but you have a lot of talent, Liam, " she told him. Regardless of what he had meant to create, it was still beautiful. "So this is why you brought me here? "
Liam shrugged and nodded. "Yeah. I thought you would want to see it. Plus I promised that you would get to see my work." He said with a smile. He had a few other projects going but they weren't finished enough to where he could show anyone.
"That's right, " Des said, grinning. "Now I just have to hear you play the guitar." She really wanted to hear him play now. If he could paint like this she could only imagine what he could do with a musical instrument
Liam smiled. "You'll hear me play at the preliminary concert." He promised. "I found out when it is but I hadn't had a chance to call you before today." He said sheepishly. "It's on September 28th if you still want to come." He hoped she did but he would understand if she had changed her mind.
"Of course I still want to go! Why wouldn't I? " she inquired. Maybe he didn't want her to go. Did he not want her to hear him play anymore?
Liam shrugged. "You could have changed your mind." He said covering the painting with a sheet again. It wasn't completely finished yet but he needed to work on his other projects before finishing it.
"Well I'm more like my parents than I care to admit. I don't change my mind much, " she said with a shrug. She watched as she covered the painting back up, putting her hands in her back pockets. "I wouldn't miss it for the world."
Liam smiled. "Well in that aspect I'm glad you're like your parents." He said pushing the easel out of the way. He would hate if someone knocked it over. He glanced at the clock and realized that his class was basically over.
Odessa noticed that the rest of the class was starting to put their work away. She looked back over at the clock. "How much do you want to bet the drinks are melted again? " she said. This was getting ridiculous, her friends could get their own drinks.
Liam chuckled. "They're probably completely melted this time." He said putting away his pencils and paintbrushes. "You should probably call them or something before they worry." He didn't know how her friends would act since she hadn't answered a single call since they ran into each other.
"Yeah, that's probably a good idea, " she admitted reluctantly as she took her phone out. Turning it on, if began to buzz immediately with notifications. Thirteen calls and thirty messages. "Yikes, " Des muttered under her breath. They must have been calling her nonstop.
Liam glanced over her shoulder and saw all of her notifications. He whistled. "Wow your friends sure are persistent. You can call them if you want." He said. "I have to talk to my teacher real quick." He walked up to the teachers desk and started explaining why he was late.
Odessa gave him a small smile before dialling Paiges number. She picked up on the first ring. "Where are you? Were you arrested? Were you in an accident? Were you kidnapped? Were you killed? " Odessa was bombarded, both of her friends shouting at her on speaker phone. She held the phone away from her ear for a second before replying. "Guys I'm fine, calm down. I haven't been gone for that long.""It's been over an hour! "
Liam glanced over his shoulder at Odessa. She was holding her phone almost a foot from her ear. He chuckled and then turned back to his teacher. "Really? They want to show my work?" He asked in disbelief. "Yes they are adamant that it be your work that they show." She said. "But they want something new."
"Something new?" He asked. "I can do that."
"How could you deprive us of coffee for so long? Are you insane?""You guys seem pretty hyper as it is. Are you sure you need caffeine? "
"Yes! What have you been doing this whole time? "
Odessa hesitated. "I ran into somebody at Starbucks."
"Thanks Miss. Montgomery." He said. "I really appreciate this offer." He couldn't believe that he was getting the chance to show his work at an actual art gallery. He made his way back to Odessa with a huge smile on his face. She was still on the phone so he busied himself at his station.
Odessa looked up and saw Liam grinning ear to ear. "Guys, I gotta go, " she said."Wait! Is it a cute some one? " Alex asked.
Des rolled her eyes. "Shut up, I'll call you when. I'm on my way, " she said before hanging up, much to her friends disapproval.
Liam glanced up when she got off the phone. "You could have talked to them longer. I actually have some stuff I need to do here if you didn't feel like waiting around. I'm gonna be here awhile." He said. He didn't want to cut their time short but if he really was going to get to show there work then he had to put all of his time into painting.
Odessa shrugged. "I told them what I needed to. They can hound me for details later," she replied. Des wanted to ask him what had made him so happy, but it seemed he had somethings he needed to take care of. "I can, um, go if you have work to do. I don't want to get in your hair or anything," she said quickly, not wanting to be a nuisance.
"Oh you won't bother me if you want to stay." He said. If she stayed then he could bounce ideas off her if he needed to. This was the biggest project he had ever had and he needed it to be good. "I just didn't know if you minded being stuck here." He wouldn't force her to stay but he hoped that she would.
"It's not like I'm being held here against my will," Dessa told him with a smile. "I don't have to be anywhere anytime soon. I just didn't want to get in your way, is all," she explained. "What exactly are you supposed to be working on, anyway?"
Liam grinned broadly again. "Just one of the biggest projects of my life." He said squeezing some paint onto his palette. "A local art gallery pick me to display my art at their opening. It's a huge honor." He still couldn't wrap his mind around it.
Odessa's eyebrows shot up. "That's incredible, Liam! I'm really happy for you," she exclaimed. He was obviously talented and it was great that other people could see that too. "Are you sure you want me to stay? It sounds like you have a lot of work to do and I don't want to be a distraction."
Liam glanced up from mixing paint. He knew that he needed to work but he didn't want to ignore her. "I am going to be pretty busy so I don't know if you're going to want to stick around." He bit his lip. What if they didn't run into each other again? He had her phone number but what if she didn't answer because she didn't know the number? "I'll call you if you want."
Odessa felt her heart sink a little, but she kept her smile on her face. "I wouldn't have given you my number if I didn't want you to call," she said simply. She had kept her friends waiting long enough. "Just don't wait too long to use it, okay?"
Liam grinned at her. "I won't. Maybe I'll call you tonight when I'm finished here." He suggested. It was weird talking and hanging out with someone like this again. But it felt good too. "I'll talk to you later."
Odessa only let go of Liam when she was sure the bike had stopped. She had gotten used to being on his motorcycle with him, but she got the feeling he had forgotten she was with him because she couldn't remember him going that fast ever, not even when he was late taking her home. Was he that excited to show her the painting that he had need to get here as fast as he could? Odessa carefully got off the bike, handing him her helmet.
Liam took the helmet from her and smiled sheepishly. "Sorry about the speed." He said swinging his leg off the bike. "I'm a little excited." He was practically bouncing, but he couldn't expel the butterflies in his stomach. She would be the first person to see the completed piece.
Dessa smiled at him gently. "I can tell," she teased him. She took his hand, leading him inside. "Come on, let's go see what you've been working so hard on." She was eager to see what he had created, as well. He had put so much time and effort into it that she didn't expect anything less than incredible.
Liam pulled open the door to his art classroom and held it open for Odessa. His palms were sweating slightly with his nerves but he pushed his doubts to the back of his mind and walked to the back where his station was. He wheeled over his canvas and took a deep breath before removing the sheet that was covering it.
The corner of of Odessa's lips raised ever so slightly when she noticed the faint moisture between their hands. He could be as excited as he wanted, but he was still nervous. She probably would be to, but when Des got nervous, she usually lost her mind. She envied Liam for being able to keep himself so composed. When he pulled the sheet off the canvas, she envied a bit more than just his composure. "Whoa."
Liam bit his lip as he gauged her reaction. His painting was simple enough but most people wouldn't be able to get the significance of it. It was a table knocked over on the beach that led down to a pair of silhouettes standing together at the edge of the surf. He wanted to capture the essence of that night completely but he hadn't know how.
At first glance, Dessa hadn't been sure what to make of it. She was able to recognize the scene immediately and as her eyes drank in each detail, a slow grin curved her lips. "I think the only way this could be better was if I was seeing it at the show," she told Liam, smiling up at him.
Liam grinned relieved. "You don't think it's too simple? Or maybe too easy to read. I know most artists go for the abstract but there was no way to make this abstract and still have it convey what I wanted." He said. He wished she would be there so everyone could see where he came up with the idea but he would have to live with explaining it instead.
"Well, I've only seen, like, two of your pieces, but from that I've decided that you aren't an abstract artist," she said with a smile. "The simplicity works perfectly. The meaning behind it balances it out. It's simple, but not mundane."
Liam looked back down at the painting. It had taken him longer than most of his other pieces but that may be because he had been having trouble finishing it to his exact perfection. He smiled over at Odessa. "Thank you. You're opinion is really the only one that matters."
"I like the way you think," Odessa said with a smirk. The people at the show were going to love this. She just wished she could be there to see it. Okay, I seriously need to figure something out, Des thought to herself determinedly.
