I am planning on starting this sometime this weekend or week. I've heard great things but I am afraid it will be a heartbreaking read. I always take forever to read books like that. I've been putting off reading the fault in our stars for months!

So due to the lack of chapters, it's kind of hard to say how far I read, but I'll try...
I'm reading the hardcover and finished page 33, stopping right before "12:19 PM"

(view spoiler)[Wow. Wow, wow, wow. I was just starting to really like Mia's family, and then... :'(
What's strange to me is that this conscious-mind-Mia hasn't yet addressed the thought of her dead parents. Maybe she doesn't know that they're dead? I thought it was pretty obvious, though. Hmm.. Also, while I understand that there's pretty much no other way of keeping a first-person story going without having Mia think about stuff, she just seems oddly detached from the whole scenario. Despite that, every molecule of my being is hoping for Teddy and her to be alright (physically, that is).

I love the flashbacks about her cello playing and Adam. The relationship between her and Adam is really cute, I hope we get to read it in the present later! (hide spoiler)]

(view spoiler)[Adam and Mia are so cute awwh <3 I love how they met over music and became comfortable with each other through music (well, sort of music, anyway haha).
Kim and Mia's relationship also intrigues me. I thought it was pretty funny how they started off as pretty much nemeses, and became best friends. Kim's volunteering thing was genius xD I should definitely try it sometime soon. (hide spoiler)]

(view spoiler)[I love how we're getting to see the past. Every bit of it--Mia's conservatory camp, Mia and Adam's relationship, stuff with Mia's family--is all the more heartbreaking. It's horrible to see how such a wonderful group of people can be torn apart by some random chance of bad luck.
I'm actually glad that Mia was considering to quit the cello at some point, it makes her seem more realistic. I mean, I have absolutely nothing against completely devoted musicians, but the fact that Mia had her rough patches and wasn't always 100% cello-obsessed creates a relatable front.
And I like that Forman has shown that it's truly Mia's choice whether she lives or not. When she found out that Teddy was dead, some of her will to stay left, and that's why a blood vessel broke. :'( I honestly cannot predict what she'll choose to do. Aggressively avoiding spoilers and synopses of Where She Went at this point. (hide spoiler)]

Clambered out of my bed at 1:30 AM because wow after finishing this book I don't think I can sleep:

(view spoiler)[I am overwhelmingly glad that Mia decided to stay. Of course, this comes with its drawbacks, but it's occurring to me that my heart would break even more if she left her grandparents and Kim and Adam behind.
I NEED to read the sequel. Like, right now.
It's very fitting that Mia woke up to cello music~ I started tearing up a little at that part <3
