What are your favorite characters in classics?
I love Catherine Earnshaw and Cathy Linton from Wuthering Heights. What about you?

Iris (mountainlillygirl) | 6 comments My favorite characters? Where to begin? I love Anne Elliot from Persuasion, Elinor Dashwood from Sense and Sensibility. I also love Tarzan from Tarzan of the apes, and Jane Eyre from Jane Eyre. Pearl is also one of my favorites from The Scarlet Letter.

Jane Eyre is also one of my favorites. I love little Adele from Jane Eyre too.
The Dashwood sisters from Sense and Sensibility are also part of my favorites.

I can't believe I didn't read The Count of Monte Cristo yet. I really have to.

message 6: by Emma (new)

Emma (rpblcofletters) I haven't either actually. It's just soooo long but my friend read it and told me about it so I know sort of what it's like :)

message 7: by Uma (new)

Uma | 14 comments My brother read it and it took some time, so I haven't read it yet, but I want too

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 43 comments Oh, you must read the Count! Read the unabridged (it's long but reads fast), and I'd recommend the Robin Buss translation (I know Penguin Classics uses it).

The Count, definitely. Elizabeth Bennett. Becky Sharp, bless her little mercenary heart! Margaret Hale from North and South. Jane Eyre. Anne Eliot. There are a whole raft from Dickens, that I don't know where to start.

Perhaps we can read The Count of Monte Cristo as a group read? Everybody here seems to be interested by this book and we can find it esaily.

Emma (rpblcofletters) Yes!!
My friend read the Penguin Classics edition. She said that the translation was very good, so may I suggest that?

message 11: by Destiny (new)

Destiny (ladestinytwilliams) | 4 comments My favorite character is Jane Eyre. She really inspires me especially considering the era she was living in.

Jane Eyre inspire a lot of people. I think she is one of the favorites characters in classics.

Uma | 14 comments I was about to start Jane Eyre, but we're reading it in school, so I think I'll wait.

I understand. I loved Jane Eyre SO MUCH but Wuthering Heights was even better. Agnes Grey (Anne's novel) was good but not extraordinary. Anyway, The Brontë siters had so much talent... I read that their brother Branwell was a little genius. He could write two letters at the same time (!!!).

message 16: by Lexy (new)

Lexy deGraffenreid (alexiapuravida) Sir Percy Blakeney is one of my all-time favorite characters. Him, Elizabeth Bennett, and Viola (Twelfth Night)

Oh yes, Elizabeth Bennett! In fact I love all the Bennett sisters (Jane, Elizabeth, Mary, Kitty and Lydia). I also love the Dashwood sisters, Elinor and Marianne.

Lexy deGraffenreid (alexiapuravida) yup!!

message 19: by Yanina (new)

Yanina Stachura | 14 comments Here are a few: Becky Sharpe in Vanity Fair. Margaret Hale in North and South. Jane Eyre. Elizabeth Bennett in Pride and Prejudice. Anne Elliot in Persuasion. Clarissa in the novel of the same name. Yelena in Uncle Vanya.

message 25: by J. (new)

J. Rubino (jrubino) Sherlock Holmes, of course.
Too many Dickens characters to list - Quilp and Madam Defarge are great villains.
Anne Shirley.
Lydia Gwilt, another great villain in Collins' "Armadale."

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 43 comments Oh yes, I quite forgot - the Wife of Bath.

message 27: by David (new)

David Drum (darling1) | 1 comments One of my favorite characters is Heathcliff, the hero of Wuthering Heights and also of my my new novel Heathcliff: The Lost Years. I have been fascinated by this cruel, passionate young man since I read Wuthering Heights one stormy night in high school. My novel tracks what happened to him after he left Wuthering Heights for three years, something never spelled out in the book.Heathcliff: The Lost Years The book is to be released September 30, 2019. Website is www.heathcliffthelostyears.com

message 28: by Bruno (new)

Bruno | 2 comments Among many and various extraordinary characters, I would go with wise and cunning Odysseus, the King of Ithaca and one of the great Greek heroes from Homer's poems, Iliad and Odyssey. His achievement of conquering Troy is only matched by his love towards his homeland and his family. Of course, who could forget his deeds and abilities to get out of every situation that lays before him? He has made so much an impact that I see similarities between him and the anime characters from the West (Batman from DC) and East (Piccolo from Dragon Ball series)

Jovan (iovan) Alkibijad, without hinking!
