Does the setting of Skye add to the narative of the book? Would the book have the same appeal if it was based in a bigger city?

Brockmole has such a way of sweeping you into Isle of Skye. You could feel the starkness and remoteness of the island. Island people are so different. They may be stronger in a way. Elspeth and her mother had a beauty and strength that reflected their island and their life on it. Elspeth carried that with her when she left the Isle of Skye. For me, the book would not have been as engaging if it was set in London or even Edinburgh.
