Justine Larkin (wruine) | 26 comments A Girl works in an antique shop. When they do house clerances she sorts through items looking for thise with a bad "vibe" which need to be removed from circulation. When she touches the objects they give her visions.

This is possibly a series.

The 1st book featured a button that was in a jar/box of buttons and there was a skull hidden in a secret panel in the house they were clearing.

Update - just to collect the information added below - The main character is a grown woman who works in the antique shop with 2 guys (I think) An older one who is possibly related to her with similar powers and a guy her own age.

I also think the book was set in the southern US the weather is always hot. I also think the button metioned belonged to a confederate soldier.

Tab (tabbrown) | 5084 comments How many years ago did you read this book? Remember anything about the cover?

message 3: by Justine (new)

Justine Larkin (wruine) | 26 comments It was last year - and unfortunately I think it was an audiobook. The files were on my old pc so I no longer have them.

I'm pretty sure the book is fairly recent. It was recommended to me as something I'd like if I liked Charlaine Harris.

Buried?

Thorn Matthews is a Finder, a person with the psychic ability to find things just by touching an object. The visions she gets from objects—events and memories—are what guide her to the things that need to be found.

When Thorn locates a mysterious locket, it leads to a shocking and grim discovery.

Justine Larkin (wruine) | 26 comments No that's not it. The main caracter in the book I'm looking for is grown up. But thanks for the sugestion!

message 6: by Holly (new)

Holly (hollylovesbooks) | 759 comments That reminds me of the tv series Ghost Whisperer, haha. Unfortunately, I don't know what book that could be! Sounds interesting though.

message 7: by Justine (new)

Justine Larkin (wruine) | 26 comments I thought when I was writing it that it was like ghost whisperer - but unfortunately it was definately a book!

message 8: by Jaye (new)

Jaye | 425 comments I've asked over at the cozy mystery group.
Hopefully someone over there will know of the book and I'll post it here when/if I find out.

message 9: by Alycia (new)

Alycia (alyciac) | 46 comments Sounds a little bit like the Witchcraft Mystery series by Juliet Blackwell. Main character runs a used clothing shop in San Francisco, I know she picks up "vibes" from stuff. Can't remember details about button or skulls unfortunately.

Moonlight | 28 comments There is a series by Madelyn Alt that is about a psychic empath who works as a clerk in an antiques shop. Your books sounds very familiar to me like something that was recommended to me before.

If that is not it, you might check out the blog:
http://www.cozy-mystery.com/

The author keeps a list of cozy mysteries by theme that might narrow down your search.

That book sounds like a fun read. I love vintage clothing.

message 12: by Justine (new)

Justine Larkin (wruine) | 26 comments Thanks Jaye - unfortunately not the one - no one in the book is a witch. I believe that she worked with 2 guys in the shop. An older one with the same power as her (who may have been related to her)and a younger one with no powers.

message 13: by Justine (new)

Justine Larkin (wruine) | 26 comments Thanks Alycia - Unfortunately it was definately antiques and not clothing.

I know that there is a site where you can type in an author's name and it will give you a random assortment of other authors who write the same types of books. Unfortunately, I can NOT remember where that site is. (Is it part of GR perhaps?) I've only been once, and found it entirely by accident then.

edit: Ok, went back searching and found it. http://www.literature-map.com/ Try that, putting in Charlaine Harris, Annette Blair, Juliet Blackwell, and any other writers you can think of who do that type of mystery. Plus you will get more suggestions from the lists of the authors you put in.

❂ Jennifer (reviews on BookLikes) (jennevans) | 1945 comments It doesn't fit exactly, but what about the Missing Pieces series? The second book in the series comes close: she owns an antique store, she picks up stories from what she touches, and there are two men: her grandfather and her love interest.''

message 17: by Justine (new)

Justine Larkin (wruine) | 26 comments Hi Jaye - Thanks for helping me so much! Unfortunately it's neither of those. :( I really hope that this book isn;t just a figment of my imagination!

message 18: by Jaye (new)

Jaye | 425 comments I found this definition that may help with the search:

"Psychometry is a psychic skill that involves the handling of objects in order to pick up information about that objects history or the events or emotions of people connected with that object."

bookworm | 92 comments Sorry no good suggestion here I wanna follow this thread though

message 23: by Chelsea (new)

Chelsea (chelseanorma) | 5 comments This book for sure isn't it, but it looks like some people are interested in the premise so I'll throw in a reccomendation for the The Diviners. It's a recent YA book but very well written and anything by Libba Brayis amazing. The main character solves mysteries by getting flashbacks from objects and works with her uncle in an occult shop in New York 1920s.

Figured it is similar enough that some people on this thread might like it. Also, the audiobook is amazing.

This is a long shot: The Enchantment Emporium. It has the antique shop, and there are items in the shop that emit ghostly manifestations. It is a great book.

message 25: by Justine (new)

Justine Larkin (wruine) | 26 comments Thanks Kate - but no. The power of the visions is the only "magical" thing in this book.

The House on Tradd Street for the click for Katrina's book.

And when is GR going to fix the app so that you can put in links and do other important things when using it? (that is just a frustrated wish that GR would get off their duffs and fix this issue, it's not a "real" question.)

message 28: by Justine (new)

Sophie (notemily) | 477 comments Sounds sort of similar to this request--probably not the same book, but maybe one of the books mentioned here is the answer to the other one.

message 31: by Justine (new)

Justine Larkin (wruine) | 26 comments Hi Sophie - I know what the above is as it was suggested earlier in this thread so I will go and let them know!

message 32: by Sally (new)

Sally | 2 comments The Firebird by Susanna Kearsley. Young woman in antique shop has visions of items past when she touches them. Met man with similar powers when she went to be tested. Book about her search for provenance on a statue brought to the shop by an aging woman who wants to sell it. Believed to have been owned by Catherine the Great.

SarahBeth | 86 comments Deadly Curiosities by Gail Z Martin. This book is very recent, but there are a few short stories that were published prior to the book coming out.

The Button story is one of the short stories Deadly Curiosities (Deadly Curiosities, #1) by Gail Z. Martin

message 40: by Jaye (new)

Jaye | 425 comments hmmmm.
This certainly sounds likely. I hope Justine comes back to tell us yes or no.
Urban fantasy never even occurred to me. I was thinking cozy mystery the whole time !
