is it just me or is this chapter the longest one in the book!

There's an easy way to tell - and it's not at all subjective... subtract the first page number from the last page number. You can do this for all chapters in about 2 minutes using a spreadsheet.
I'll place a bet it's the one about Gandalf meeting up with that happy old soul Denethor in Minas Tirith. This was an insurmountable hurdle for me on two occassions as it just bored me and I lost all interest.
hahaha, currently reading this book
and I just skip pages because it just is not relevant to the plot at all!

Yeah...there are many scenes in the book, which are boring...But it is an epic
It seems like the longest section of the book because it's the set up for the rest of the story. Tolkien has to put everything in place, establishing characters and setting and exposition, which takes a lot of time considering how incredibly detailed this story is. Once everything is in place, THEN the ball starts rolling and the plot picks up. I'm reading The Two Towers right now, which has a considerably faster pace than The Fellowship of the Ring. That's because most of the characters and setting and exposition have already been covered in the first book, so Tolkien can just get straight to the action.
