Lazy reader?

Is wanting to read the same mega-series (Outlander, Game of Thrones, Lord of the Rings tend to be my "revisit old friends" series) every few years the sign of a lazy reader?

No way. I wish I could reread books, but I can't bring myself to do it. There are so many books I want to read, I can't bring myself to spend the time rereading books for which I already know the ending.

Megan I agree! I have rarely reread a book... sometimes I do it by accident though!

Jeanine Celentano Me too even though I have bought books that I have read and keep on a shelf thinking I will reread them

I agree with Jacki. I've read them twice and I'm sure I will read them again. You always find something new. I don't know how to explain it but I love how they love each other

There were several books that I re-read. I have to admit that I liked them much more second time around. Since, the first time I was totally in awe by the characters and plots, so I rushed through the pages just to find out what will happen next. However, the second, or third time around there is no suspense, there is only beauty of story and I have paid much more attention to details, and I discovered so many things which I missed the first time. That is no lazy reading, that is enjoying the books. True, it is like visiting old friend.

No way! All the series you mentioned almost have to be read more than once due to the fact that they're so information heavy. There are definitely things I missed when I read all of those series the first time. It's sort of amazing when you read them again to realize how much you actually did miss the first time.

If it's lazy, then I'm totally guilty!

I reread, and am now trying to add time to reread Dorothy Dunnett in between rereading Outlander in time for the next one to be released, in between reading all the new things on my "to read" list. I need the capability of folding time just to go sit somewhere and read for like a month!

There are about 5 - 10 books that I reread every year. It's not out of laziness, it's out of love of the story. It's also because rereading is a lot like visiting an old friend. Sure you know how it ends, but each time you take a slightly different journey to get there.

No way is that being a lazy reader, you are just re-visiting something that gave you a lot of pleasure, and why not? And every reading brings something new. The Outlander series deserves to be read and read until you can't read any more. But it goes for goes for any book that really gave you enjoyment.
Lazy absolutely not.

No. I re-read the Bible each year and always 'hear' something new. I watch movies more than once and always catch something I missed before. I assume it would be so with books.

I'm going to read Outlander again before the series comes out. I can't tell you how many book I read more than once. If it's a good book then I say read it as often as you like.

No, its not lazy. I have re-read the series several times and have other ones I re-read. I miss the characters, which to me means that it is a good series and story

It's not lazy. Sometimes you see things more clearly after multiple readings. Things that you missed the first time around.

My mother has read the Outlander series 5 times through and will probably never stop. She discovers something new every time, learns something, and falls even more for them every time.

The story gets richer with each reading. All of these books are complex enough that you couldn't really know the characters and their motivations as well in just one reading.

Lazy? Hell no. It's about reading an amazing novel that's special to you; a novel you love; and that brings you pleasure each and every time you read that novel(s). It's not lazy - it's a love of reading. I mean seriously, how many times have we all watched the same movie(s) repeatedly? Same thing except this time you're creating the vision in your mind.

"My task which I am trying to achieve is by the power of the written word, to make you hear, to make you feel--it is, before all, to make you see. That--and no more, and it is everything."
- Joseph Conrad

My favorite:

"When I read great literature, great drama, speeches, or sermons, I feel that the human mind has not achieved anything greater than the ability to share feelings and thoughts through language."
- James Earl Jones

I think it's a sign of loving to read books you love. When I reread my favorites, I always seem to discover a detail I missed before which only adds to my love for them.

Rereading The Cat in a Hat would be lazy, not rereading Outlander.
