Elizabeth☮ Hello all! I am so happy to see that Rob and Kate have started up a group here on goodreads. My reading podcasts have come full circle.

I am now reading The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett The Secret Garden because I have never read it before. I bought it for my daughter, but decided I should give it a read before I made her read it because it is a "classic."

I'll be ashamed to say, this is one I've never read either. Seen many adaptations on screen but never sat down with the book before!

Elizabeth☮ I finished it Rob and I wasn't impressed. I think if I'd have read it as a kid, I would have really been lost with the dialect. It's heavy-handed about the "magic" of the garden also. I think it could have easily been one hundred pages shorter.

Scot, that's on my to read list. Read the start as part of our Booker project and lived it!

Any recommendations for a next read?

Lee | 1 comments Sacred Hunger by Barry Unsworth. It's amazing - one of those books you really don't want to put down.

Thanks Lee - this looks fascinating and just added to my To-Read.

I've decided on Rob's book of the year The Goldfinch.

Elizabeth☮ I am reading Elmer Gantry by Sinclair Lewis Elmer Gantry which I have never read before and finding quite fascinating.

When I was about 6 or 7, I loved this - I remember imagining her coming from the heat of India to the cold of the moors, fancying myself in the role. I've not read it since I was little, I think I won't revisit it, in case it's a disappointment.

I'm just starting She Is Not Invisible by Marcus Sedgwick - heard really good things!

Elizabeth☮ As for the secret garden Kate, I think if you read it now your love for it might diminish. It could also be that it felt very dated so it was difficult I get my head into the time period.

The book you are reading now sounds good. Please post your thoughts when you have finished.
