The Catcher in the Rye
question
Code Breaking The Cathcer In The Rye

I would like to purpose that this book was written in code and that you can't really understand the "meaning" unless you break the code. I will give you a few examples here but I don't want to spoil it for you. (For more examples look at my book review of The Catcher In the Rye and also of the book The 39 Steps ) Holden is a car, (His purpose is to be a vehicle to carry you through the story, but this story is not about Holden Caulfield like David Copperfeld is about David) and Caul-field is taken from the book David Copperfield. Look at the first page of David Copperfield and you will find what it means and how Salinger is telling you that you must unveil the meaning of this story.
Code Breakers were part of WW2 and I know from reading and studying this book that you can break the code.
Another one to look at that got me started was easy. Holden says he doesn't like movies and he took Phoebe to a movie 10 times and she memorized the lines in it. Watch the movie and then read the book and I think you will see why Holden/Salinger doesn't like movies and also that their is something "hidden" in the Catcher in the Rye.
Why hide anything? Why not just say what is on your mind? Well I think you will understand that when you break the code.
My point is that I believe that The Catcher in the Rye is about war...and creating a war machine. and why it was created. When you get to the end and get on the Merry-go -round play the song "Smokes Gets In Your Eyes". I don't remember that ever being played. But it does remind me of the housing bubble.

Well to be honest, while I studied this book in English A Level a few months back, we did realise there were a lot of things in this book that we had to figure out for ourselves. The book itself is very interesting, different from a bunch I have read.
The main mystery was what is the catcher in the rye? The answer pretty much came to us at the end, but with a whole new interest. It was rather confusing too, because Holden had always kept away from adulthood, though he didn’t openly express his want of children to NOT grow up.
I don’t know though, I’ll stop there; don’t want to spoil anything important. :)
