Do's and Donts of using Beta's

Any have any advice or experiences please, in regards to using new Beta's you don't know?

1. Sign up more beta readers than you think you'll need. Some won't finish the book, others won't ever get back with you after you send them the manuscript.

2. Join an online writer's critique group. My best beta readers come from this ongoing relationship. (TheNextBigWriter.com happens to be the one where I hang out.)
