Not really like Dresden IMO. If you like military fantasy you should enjoy CP, it has magic/powers along with the military angle. I really enjoyed it.
I haven't read "Control Point" but... MHI Rocks (it's been the gold standard for me for all Monster Hunter-Killer stories for a long time.)
I haven't read "Control Point" and the farther I get in the Dresden series I like them more and more. You just can't go wrong with continuing with the MHI series. My vote would be read, Monster Hunter Vendetta!
I just picked up "Monster Hunter, Inc." a few weeks ago as it looks to be right up my literary alley. It now sits on my Kindle...along with about 50 other books waiting to be read.
Don't wait!!! The other books can. You'll have to let us know what you think when you're finished. You're in for a treat.
MHI Rocks... and as a "first read" of that "new Larry Corriea guy...whoever he is" I can't remember when I enjoyed a first book so much.

Stuck deciding between Monster Hunter Vendetta (i enjoyed the first one) and Control Point: Shadow Ops as my next book
Is Control Point similar to dresden files (im not a fan of urban fantasy at all) but do like military fantasy
Please help!!
