Madge had her mother's permission to take the morphling. They had reason to hate the Capitol. Her mother's twin was Maysilee who died in the Games - the same QQ Haymitch won. I think they'd see themselves as involved with Katniss and the rebellion as the Mockingjay pin was originally Maysilee's.
From what we know of them in HG, Gale resents the fact that Madge's name wouldn't have as many entries in the Reaping bowl as children from poorer families who took tesserae (sp?).
I think Haymitch and Peeta making a connection between Madge and Gale was a device that SC used to throw confusion on Katniss's feelings towards Gale.
Madge is very like Katniss. She seems to be a loner and an individualist, not interested in girly things. She wanted to go in to the woods with Katniss. I see her as being more collected, with less hang-ups. Not as much fire.
She might have ethical problems with Gale's choices in MJ, and I think for Madge, it would be a deal breaker. On the other hand, I think they'd work well together post-rebellion. Maybe.

My opinion of the love triangle in MJ is that it was mostly on the boy's side with both seeing the other as rivals. The fake romance between Katniss and Peeta in the Games had both of them confused and wondering where they stood.
From Katniss's side, not so much. It was mostly about Peeta. When I re-read the bits where Katniss and Gale kiss and such, SC has Katniss focus on the observation of external aspects - the feel of his lips, the strength in his hands, smells etc. What's missing is emotional connection and physical attraction.
I think SC was very clever in building the veneer of a love triangle to create romantic tension and muddy the waters, so to speak.
I agree it would be hard for Gale to form a long term relationship with a woman after Katniss. If they had broken up under other circumstances, I think it would be relatively easy for him to move on. I don't think he's the best fit for Katniss. As a friend, yes. As a marriage prospect, no. Too much alike, different values, wanting different things from life. But I think the guilt hanging over him would sour every relationship after that. He'd have lots of girlfriends, maybe marry, but nothing lasting. Maybe a fling with Johanna at some point?
But on the other hand, pre-Katniss Gale had lots of flirtations and, who knows, maybe sexual experience as well. He did a lot of kissing with lots of girls in various places. I wonder too, whether Gale's attraction to Katniss had something to do with her unattainability. He had no interest until he thought Darius did. I tend to think even Katniss wouldn't have been around for very long.

But yeah Prim and Gale really do fit perfectly.
Actually, President Coin isn't too far fetched. The age gap is a barrier though. They were very chummy and they thought alike. Gale continued to work with her even though he wasn't certain whether it was his bomb that killed Prim.

When I started reading The Hunger games at first I thought Gale and Katniss will end up together.But this would be maybe boring and expected probably by most readers. Susanne Collins made it much more interesting.
Prim and Gale it does not fit , he was with Katniss , he has more experience , I enjoy thinking about him as a single guy to be just mine. Lol
On the other hand, Prim was introduced to us at the beginning as a little girl , she grew up but there is no way I could imagine her with Gale.
Maybe that sounds challenging to put them together,
but that still seems to me like an already told story :(
To sum up, Susanne Collins definitely did great job I would have got lost :O
All these pairings and view points are great but i am very shocked that no one has nominated themselves yet :/ interesting... since i imagine at least one of everybody in this discussion is probably in love with Gale
If Madge hadn't died in Catching fire I could see them together. Prim was 12 when Gale was 18 and she is Katniss's sister creepy.
Prim or umm....maybe Rory (his 12 year old brother)

I wouldn't pick Gale in a million years. He's a war criminal.
I don't think Gale and Katniss were suited. Hence other pairings.

Prim would be nice and she was a kind and gentle girl. She might be able to bring the nice young man in Gale. Or not, if Gale was still longing for Katniss and can't bear to have a family gathering where Katniss and Peeta would join him and Prim. That would not be fair for Prim either.By all matters, Prim died and the idea died with her.
I read about Gale and Coin. That might work despite the age. They are both ambitious. Children are probably not in their agenda since they are too consumed with having more power.
I think those theories make me appreciate Ms Collins more. I can't see Gale with anyone else and leaving Gale alone is the best idea.
I'd have Gale alone, stewing in anger, despair and bitterness until his twilight years when he sees Katniss' grandchildren and something in him realises that that was the best way to ensure that this new generation lives the life that they were fighting for... but maybe I'm just bitter myself xD

I know what you mean, and i agree but i figured there were some crazy team gale girls out there on this discussion :)

That actually would work... Wouldn´t have thought of that.
I can't possibly see Gale with Prim. He originally fell for Katniss, so ending up with her little sister is not really on the table. I can, however, see a lot of people with Gale. Madge, for one, once he got over her privileged past. (Except that Madge died, because the world is cruel.) Johanna, for another. I don't know why, but I ship them. A lot. I can also see Gale with an army commander from District 2, just because it seems the most plausible.But, if I had to pick one person to be with Gale, I would pick Johanna.

Give Prim a few years and she'd be the perfect mate for Gale. She'd round him out as Peeta does for Katniss. She'd soothe those fiery tendencies. She'd provide balance to his extreme views without being judgmental. And for Prim, he'd be the protector, the man she can rely on. After all, he had saved her life twice.
While he's working in his fancy job in District 2, Prim could be a doctor in one of the hospitals there.
Gale is like Laurie in Little Women. He loves Jo who's been his best friend since early teens. But alas, Jo doesn't return his feelings. Not romantically, anyway. She knows that they are too alike for a successful marriage. So Laurie goes off to sulk in Europe. And then he falls in love with Jo's younger sister, Amy, the antithesis of Jo.
Laurie acknowledges that Jo was right all along. Jo is happy with her choice, Professor Bhaer. And Laurie is happy with Amy.
