Michael | 1303 comments I'm planning to read Dragonflight next week for another book club and I noticed it was on our bookshelf so it qualifies for the challenge! If anyone else would like to read or discuss it in this group, let me know. I didn't see it on anyone's list for the year so maybe I am the only person left who hasn't read any of the Pern books!...

Oh, and is anyone else planning on reading Leviathan Wakes for September? I won't have time this month but it sounds like Maggie is interested. Anyone else?

message 202: by Valerie (new)

Valerie (darthval) | 781 comments I am interested, but this month may also be tough for me. I'd be willing to say maybe November for Leviathan???

Edwin Priest | 718 comments Valerie wrote: "I am interested, but this month may also be tough for me. I'd be willing to say maybe November for Leviathan???"

I am definitely in for this one as well, and would love to read along as a group read. I can do so whenever it is most convenient for everyone else.

message 204: by Maggie (last edited Sep 06, 2014 07:46AM) (new)

Maggie K | 693 comments November would be tough....If you want to wait until November, can we switch it out with The Moon Is a Harsh Mistress...I dont want to get too backlogged!

message 205: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 3915 comments I want to read
Wool Omnibus
Oryx and Crake
Perdido Street Station
The Color of Magic
and maybe The Left Hand of Darkness.

Ones that aren't listed:
The Last Wish
The Name of the Wind
The Long Earth
The Black Prism
The Diamond Age
Blackout

I should probably stop there or my list will become epic. So are your dates for next years reads? I only recently joined the group, but I did 26 books for my challenge, which means I have to read 18 more this year!!! I'm reading Foundation next month for another group. I would also be willing to read Zoo City again because it was an interesting book.

If you look at Michaels post 200..those are the dates for the 2014 reads. SO we still have three we were planning on, but can change things up if interest dictates!

message 207: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 3915 comments I don't really want to read Leviathan Wakes, and I've read Doomsday Book (which was very good), but maybe I'll be able to do one of the others.

message 208: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 3915 comments Would anybody be interested in Zoo City for December? It's a fairly short read so it would be a good month for it.

message 209: by Maggie (new)

Maggie K | 693 comments I would do that, Sarah...I want to read that!

message 210: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 3915 comments It's a fun book!

message 211: by Valerie (new)

Valerie (darthval) | 781 comments Actually don't know what I was thinking. October works for me, as well.

However, I am good with the suggestion to swap The Moon is a Harsh Mistress and Leviathan Wakes.

message 212: by Michael (new)

Michael | 1303 comments Ah! I can't read The Moon Is a Harsh Mistress until November, but if a group of you are reading it sooner, I can just come to the party late and do some follow-up posts...

message 213: by Edwin (last edited Sep 13, 2014 07:55AM) (new)

Edwin Priest | 718 comments I am trying to coordinate my reading plans for this month and next and am checking in regarding our group read plans for Leviathan Wakes. Anyone else still in on this, and if so when?

Oh, and after completing Mistborn: The Final Empire, I couldn't stop. I and am now into the third book, The Hero of Ages in the Mistborn Trilogy Boxed Set. Great stuff.

message 214: by Valerie (new)

Valerie (darthval) | 781 comments I will be reading Leviathan Wakes, just not sure how quickly I will get to it.

Edwin Priest | 718 comments Valerie wrote: "I will be reading Leviathan Wakes, just not sure how quickly I will get to it."

Great. Let me know when you start.

message 216: by Michael (new)

Michael | 1303 comments What's the status on Doomsday Book and The Moon Is a Harsh Mistress? Some time just freed up in my schedule, so I could read one of those this month. But if people are still doing Leviathan, that's fine, too.

I hadn't heard Doomsday discussed since January choices were made so I was curious if anyone was planning it. It's about 600 pages!

message 217: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 3915 comments Doomsday is a very good book.

I still want to read both of those and Zoo City and Across the Nightingale Floor

message 219: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 3915 comments Maggie, is Across the Nightingale Floor a past group read? If so, I'll join you for that and Zoo City. I've read Zoo City before, but I'd love to re-read.

message 220: by Maggie (new)

Maggie K | 693 comments yep-December 2011

message 221: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 3915 comments I'll do both of those with you.

message 222: by Maggie (last edited Sep 16, 2014 09:45AM) (new)

Maggie K | 693 comments what time frame are you thinking?

I am one of those people who usually has four books going at once, so I am versatile...lol

MMichael-I want to read Doomsday Book still as well.

message 223: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 3915 comments I'm pretty open. Do you want to do one in Oct and one in Nov? Depending on when you do the Doomsday Book, because that's a lengthy read.

message 224: by Maggie (last edited Sep 17, 2014 05:36AM) (new)

Maggie K | 693 comments let's do Nightingale now (ina week or two) and Zoo City in December? I want to read Moon and Doomsday with the group, so that would work perfect

message 225: by David (new)

David Haws | 451 comments I haven't put Doomsday back in my re-read pile, but was planning on it (I love Willis). I'd be interested in moving it to the front of my stack.

message 226: by K. G. (new)

K. G. Whitehurst | 64 comments I'm in for DOOMSDAY BOOK in Oct, MOON IS A HARSH MISTRESS in Nov, and ZOO CITY for Dec. Is that the way it's going?

message 227: by Michael (new)

Michael | 1303 comments Kgwhitehurst wrote: "I'm in for DOOMSDAY BOOK in Oct, MOON IS A HARSH MISTRESS in Nov, and ZOO CITY for Dec. Is that the way it's going?"

Works for me! I'll pencil in the two new ones to the schedule at the top of this page.

message 228: by Maggie (new)

Maggie K | 693 comments perfect!

message 229: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 3915 comments Looks good to me. And I can do Nightingale soon as well.

message 230: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 3915 comments I put a hold on Nightingale and should get it in a week or so. I'm not sure if I'll be participating in Doomsday but I'll try. I do want to read the sequels so it would be good to join. I'm in for Moon and Zoo City. That's three or four towards the 16 I need to read to meet my challenge!

message 231: by Hank (new)

Hank (hankenstein) | 1230 comments I'm in for Zoo City.

message 232: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 3915 comments I'll be picking up Across the Nightingale Floor from the library on Tuesday. I can read it any time after that.

message 233: by Maggie (last edited Sep 22, 2014 05:01AM) (new)

Maggie K | 693 comments ok sarah-I will probobly be able to start about the same time...

anyone else reading Leviathan?

message 234: by Edwin (last edited Sep 22, 2014 06:56AM) (new)

Edwin Priest | 718 comments Maggie wrote: "anyone else reading Leviathan?"

Me. I think Valerie wants to as well, but unclear when. I will probably start this week after I finish The Martian, but can hold off if needed.

message 235: by Sarah (new)

Edwin Priest | 718 comments Thanks Michael.

You should consider reading the remaining two books in the Mistborn series in your, um, spare time. They really expand and flesh out the first book nicely.

message 238: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 3915 comments Thanks Michael!

Valerie (darthval) | 781 comments I am currently reading Zoo City, so I am totally up for discussion for anyone else reading it.

Next week, I hope to start Leviathan Wakes. Not sure how my reading list go so out of whack.

Maggie K | 693 comments Finished Across the Nightingale Floor, and almost done with Leviathan Wakes. Next up will be Doomsday Book and Alif the unseen for me.
Then Stranger and Moon in November and Zoo City in December

message 245: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 3915 comments I also finished Nightingale. I'm not joining Doomsday, but I'll join Zoo City and Moon is a Harsh Mistress.

message 246: by Paolo (new)

Paolo (ppiazzesi) | 74 comments I'll join for Leviathan Wakes! I'll get started on it when I finish Authority which should hopefully be tonight.

I'm reading both of those and can do either order, but I won't be starting until this weekend. David, Kgwhitehurst, you both expressed interest in Doomsday Book - do you have an order preference?

I'm got both of them out. I'm a couple chapters into a re-read of Doomsday.

Michael | 1303 comments Here's the latest schedule proposal for the 16 (and counting) "hot books" in this thread (posting this up top on this page so it is easy to find):

(5) The Color of Magic - (250pp) - July 22
(4) Mistborn: The Final Empire* - (647pp) - August 18

Night Watch and Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? also seem "hot" with 5 readers each, someone may want to propose times to read those...

message 250: by Michael (new)

Michael | 1303 comments I see there's been some activity in multiple reading threads! If you are still reading some of the books, or finished and want to post your thoughts, here are the links again:

Across the Nightingale Floor:
Initial Thoughts (No Spoilers)
Finished Reading (Unmarked Spoilers)

Leviathan Wakes:
"Leviathan Wakes" Sci-Fi First Impressions *no spoilers*
"Leviathan Wakes" Finished Reading (Spoilers Away!)

Zoo City:
"Zoo City" First Impressions *No Spoilers*
"Zoo City" Final Thoughts *Spoilers*

In particular, Zoo City was originally scheduled for December, so if you are coming in late, please post!

I just got my copy of Doomsday Book from the library, and noticed again how long it is. I just finished the 433 page Alif the Unseen, but this similarly sized 456 page Doomsday Book hardcover has text that looks almost twice as dense, so it's going to take me a minute to read this one...!

David posted that he already started his Doomsday Book reread, and I'll be starting probably Monday, October 13. Here are the threads for anyone who wants to start posting before then:

Doomsday Book Initial Impressions (No Spoilers)
"Doomsday Book" Finished Reading (Spoilers)

Since this one is so long, and seems like something of a magnet for progress spoilers, I'll see if I can add some threads for different sections of the book once I get the lay of the land...
